Nepotism Claims - The movie, which was produced by Karan Johar, who is well-known for pushing celebrity kids in his films, marked the debut of three star kids: Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, and Sidharth Malhotra. Several members of the media and viewers accused Johar and the movie of encouraging nepotism and giving star kids an unfair advantage in the business.
Plagiarism Charges: The film's tune "The Disco Song," a remix of the well-known 1980s classic "Disco Deewane," was charged with plagiarism. The brother of Pakistani singer Nazia Hassan, Zoheb Hassan, claimed that the song was used in the movie without proper attribution or authorization.
Homophobia Charges - A few individuals who identify as LGBTQ+ have accused the movie of employing homophobic slurs in portions of the dialogue. In a later statement, the film's creators and director expressed regret for any harm they may have caused and pledged to treat the subject with more care in their future productions.

Karan Johar's fifth directorial venture, "Student of the Year," was initially planned as a launch vehicle for Shahrukh Khan's son Aryan Khan. However, due to various reasons, Karan decided to cast three fresh faces - Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, and Sidharth Malhotra - in the lead roles.
The film's title song "Student of the Year" was shot over a period of six days and involved over 100 dancers. The song was choreographed by Farah Khan and featured the lead trio competing against each other in various sports.
Alia Bhatt, who played the role of Shanaya Singhania in the film, was only 19 years old at the time of the film's release. She was the youngest actor in the lead role in a Karan Johar film.
Varun Dhawan, who played the role of Rohan Nanda, initially auditioned for the role of Abhimanyu Singh but was later cast as Rohan after Karan Johar saw his audition tape.
The film's iconic disco-themed song "The Disco Song" was originally composed by Pakistani pop singer Nazia Hassan and her brother Zoheb Hassan in the 1980s. The song was remixed for the film and went on to become a chartbuster.
The film's sequel, "Student of the Year 2," was released in 2019 and featured Tiger Shroff, Ananya Panday, and Tara Sutaria in the lead roles.
The movie was a commercial success, earning over INR 109 crores globally, despite some controversy. The leading actors' careers were established by the movie's popularity, and a sequel was made possible. Ultimately, Karan Johar's "Student of the Year" is a notable addition to his excellent career and a favourite among Hindi moviegoers. A sequel, "Student of the Year 2," which was released in 2019 and with a new cast and plot, was made possible by the movie's success.
