Rishi Kapoor's Wife

Rishi Kapoor Wife

Rishi was a well-known actor when he began dating Neetu who was only 14 at the time. Rishi and Neetu never fell in love at first sight. He would frequently annoy Neetu with his antics but eventually both Rishi and Neetu realized they were made for each other and married on January 22 1980.

When asked what keeps them going strong during their appearance on the first season of Koffee With Karan Rishi responded It has always been Neetu who has made all the attempts I have always been a difficult man. He also stated that when his career began they used to work together and spend most of their time together but they were never attracted to each other at the time and Neetu was more of a friend to him. He used to tell her his stories and experiences and cry on her shoulder whenever he broke up with someone.

Rishi realized he loved Neetu when he flew to Paris to shoot for Barood while Neetu was in Kashmir filming Kabhi Kabhie. He felt lonely away from Neetu and after a few days he realized he was in love with her and telegrammed her 'Ye Sikhni Badi Yaad aati hai (I truly miss the Sikhni).' Neetu who was equally in love with him received the telegram and immediately showed it to Yash and Pam Chopra.

After they began dating Rishi told Neetu I'll only date you; I'll never marry you. However the pair dated for five years before marrying. Just a few months before the wedding Neetu notified all of her directors and co-stars that she would be leaving the industry soon.

Neetu Kapoor discussed her magnificent wedding with Rishi Kapoor in a 2003 throwback interview with Rediff.com. Neetu had revealed the location of her huge massive Punjabi wedding which took place at the Golf Course in Chembur Mumbai. The whole film industry was invited to one of the year's most important weddings.

Top 10 movies of Rishi Kapoor

Bobby

Bobby was Rishi Kapoor's first film and a huge success. It could be the plot or the fact that it was one of the first films to offer a young-love tale with young actors. Following the release of Bobby Kapoor became an overnight sensation. It's the story of two kids from different socioeconomic backgrounds who fell in love despite their families' strong opposition.

Bobby was the highest-grossing film in India in 1973 grossing 11 crores. It was also the second-highest-grossing picture in India in the 1970s trailing only Sholay (1975). Adjusted for inflation it earned 398 crores in 2011 which equates to 697 crores (US$87 million) in 2016. As of 2011 it was one of India's top 20 highest-grossing films of all time.

Karz

Another of Rishi Kapoor's best films from his youth helped him become a star of 70s and 80s cinema. The tale revolves around reincarnation and revenge yet the film is still complete entertainment with brilliant actors and music to back it up. Viewers regard this film as a classic of Hindi cinema and everyone should see it at least once in their lives. Despite being considered a cult masterpiece today.

Karz was judged an average film countrywide upon its premiere and the following week Feroz Khan's mega-budget Qurbani demolished it at the box office.

Saagar

Saagar reunites Rishi Kapoor with his first film heroine Dimple Kapadia and the two deliver another unforgettable performance for the audience to enjoy. It's a love triangle narrative but it's told in an unusual way that makes it an entertaining watch thanks to outstanding performances.

On August 9 1985 Saagar was released. Despite critical acclaim the film was a box office disaster. It gained popularity through re-runs on television channels over the years and is now considered a classic and cult film. Saagar premiered at the Habitat Film Festival in 2015.

Do Dooni Char

Do Dooni Char is probably one of Rishi Kapoor's most memorable performances in which he made a comeback alongside his long-time screen companion and real-life partner Neetu Singh. The film depicts a middle-class family's struggle to purchase a new car. It's a slice-of-life drama with Rishi Kapoor's pure persona in the center of it all. During its theatrical run the film grossed 45 million (US$560 000).

Amar Akbar and Anthony

Amar Akbar and Anthony is a multi-starrer film starring some of the industry's top names from the 1970s. It tells the story of three brothers who were separated at birth and eventually reconnect after many years. But the story isn't that straightforward; there's a lot of drama coincidences and laughter in the mix. It is another Bollywood classic in Kapoor's kitty and any admirer of his should see it again.

The film grossed 155 million rupees (equal to 3.7 billion or US$46 million in 2020) at the Indian box office making it the highest-grossing Bollywood film of 1977. It is now considered one of the most iconic films in Indian cinema.

D-Day

This Rishi Kapoor film cast the actor in a new light one that had not previously been explored. The film is about a team of experts sent to bring in the country's Most Wanted Man. The undertaking is regarded as nearly unimaginable and unattainable. Kapoor plays 'Goldman' Iqbal and his performance is nothing short of spectacular. Box Office India declared it a flop estimating its two-week collections at 17.5 crores (US$2.2 million) net. D-Day was a flop overseas grossing $425 000 in its debut weekend.

Agneepath (2012)

According to one of Kapoor's interviews his character in Agneepath was one of the most difficult parts he had ever done on film. It was also one of his first appearances in a negative role something he went on to appreciate a lot. It's a reimagining of an Amitabh Bachchan classic with more terrifying and frightening adversaries. Kapoor played Rauf Lala and showed his flexibility as an actor in this role.

With a net of 217.6 million Agneepath set the record for the greatest opening day collections. Following a successful national premiere Agneepath made 165 million (US$2.1 million) in its four-day weekend overseas.

Namastey London

Namastey London is one of the Rishi Kapoor films that in the opinion of the audience shows his actual personality. The film is a typical Bollywood drama that is immensely entertaining. The picture is supported by drama comedy and a lot of romance as well as some unforgettable sequences dialogues and songs.

The film went on to gross $714 102 500 worldwide making it one of the year's biggest hits. The film was also a success in other countries. It debuted at number 9 on the UK charts and was also in the top 20 on the US and Australian charts. The film grossed £238 841 in its first week of distribution.

Kapoor & Sons

Kapoor & Sons was another movie that portrayed Kapoor in an unusual light and proved to be difficult for him. While Rishi Kapoor brought his usual warmth and wit to this character he had to undergo extensive physical transformation to seem like a 90-year-old grandfather who is still quite young in heart. The film is about a dysfunctional family yearning for a typical and tranquil family gathering which finally leads to the revelation of many secrets.

The film grossed 102.24 crores and earned 71.57 crores. It became the year's third film to gross more than 100 crores. The film's lifetime international collection was 47.8 crore (US$6.0 million) making it the fourth highest-grossing Bollywood film overseas in 2016.

Mulk

Mulk is a relatively new addition to Kapoor's filmography yet it is excellent and phenomenal to put it mildly. The film concentrates with the country's present political and societal predicament. It's about a Muslim family seeking to restore their lost honor after their son becomes involved in terrorist operations. It's a joy to watch Kapoor in this courtroom drama. Critics in India were overwhelmingly enthusiastic about Mulk.

The film is rated 3 out of 5 stars by Khaleej Times a daily English language newspaper published in the United Arab Emirates 'Mulk' takes the risk of telling a narrative that few directors would want to be associated with. The script great performances and Anubhav Sinha's passion to portray the narrative emerge as heroes. 'Mulk' is a gutsy brave film that deserves to be seen.

Rishi Kapoor was a compulsive tweeter of jokes some of which his devoted social media following didn't always get - Mr. Kapoor frequently complained about this and after a somewhat offensive 2016 joke about Hillary Clinton was met with outrage the unrepentant actor tweeted that anyone who didn't get his humor should unfollow him.

Rishi Kapoor unlike his peers was not concerned about political correctness. He tweeted unfiltered about anything from the Gandhis to the Maharashtra beef ban things that most Bollywood actors shun like the plague. Mr. Kapoor faced the sharp end of trolls in exchange for his candor.
