Pankaj Dheer's film debut happened in 1983 with Sookha. He made his television debut in the Hindi series Mahabharat. He played Karna in B. R. Chopra's epic Mahabharat television series in 1988. He rose to prominence as Karna. His images have appeared in textbooks as references to Karna, and his statues are worshipped as Karna in temples in Karnal and Bastar.
In 1993, he co-starred with Archana Puran Singh in the premiere episode of Zee TV's horror show Dastak. In the courtroom drama television series Kanoon, he also played the main defense attorney. His outstanding performance in these television shows made him a fan favourite.
In 2006, Dheer and his brother Satluj Dheer founded Visage Studioz in Jogeshwari, Mumbai. Gufi Paintal, an actor, co-founded the Abbhinnay Acting Academy in Mumbai in 2010 and was in charge of its faculty.
