Life Story

Konganda Charamanna Cariappa was born on April 13, 1994, but he is better known by his nickname, K.C. Cariappa. He is an Indian professional cricketer who currently plays for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League.

Method of Playing

The leg spinner KC Cariappa, whose trademark delivery is the leg break, remains an enigma. He bowls the off-break, the googly, the faster ball, the carrom ball, and other variations without adjusting his grip.

Career

When Cariappa first picked up a cricket bat and ball at the age of 17, he was a quick bowling all-rounder. Cariappa participated in the 2014 season of the Karnataka Premier League (KPL) for both the Karnataka Under-19 squad and the Bijapur Bulls. He impressed a few IPL scouts enough to finish third in KPL wickets and earn a contract for next season. Although he was picked in the preliminary 30-man Karnataka squad for the Ranji Trophy, he was left off the final roster. Before beginning the 2014 Champions League Twenty20, he was asked to bowl in trials for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) during a training camp in Hyderabad in September 2014. After KKR captain Gautam Gambhir was unable to get a read on Cariappa's bowling during the team's trials, the management asked him to join the squad for the 2015 IPL auction.

Despite never having played professional cricket before being signed by the Knight Riders in February 2015, Cariappa was purchased by KKR at the IPL auction for a whopping 24 million (US$300,000). After the auction, Venky Mysore, MD & CEO of the Kolkata Knight Riders, said, Some of the top players that we have, including the legendary Kallis found him (Cariappa) to be very unusual and extremely good, and we decided to give him a shot. He played for the Knight Riders in the 2015 Indian Premier League and made his debut on April 11, 2015, against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. He just made one appearance on the pitch for them all year. The next year, he was no longer a part of their roster. Kings XI Punjab bid 8 million ($100,000) to get him at the subsequent auction.

After an injury to Shivam Mavi in 2019, he was called back to the Kolkata Knight Riders. The Kolkata Knight Riders waived him before the upcoming 2020 Indian Premier League auction. In the Indian Premier League auction held in February 2021, Cariappa was purchased by the Rajasthan Royals.

On 8 December 2021, he debuted as a Karnataka's List A squad member in the 2021-22 Vijay Hazare Trophy. The Rajasthan Royals acquired him in the 2022 Indian Premier League auction, which took place in February 2022.
