Domestic Career
Sarfaraz rose to fame after breaking Sachin Tendulkar's Harris Shield record of 439 runs off 421 balls, which he had set in 1988. It was his first Harris Shield game in 2009, when he was only 12 years old. He was playing for his school, Rizvi Springfield. The innings featured 56 fours and 12 sixes. He soon began playing for the Mumbai Under-19 team, and his performance there led to selection for the Indian Under-19 team.
In 2013, he hit 66 balls for 101 runs, including 17 fours and a six, to win the match against South Africa Under 19.
Sarfaraz represented India in two Under-19 World Cups (2014, 2016). The 2014 Under-19 World Cup featured 16 teams competing in a round-robin format, with India finishing fifth. Sarfaraz finished as the tournament's second highest run scorer. He scored 355 runs in six innings, including five scores of more than 50, for an average of 71. International Career
Sarfaraz Khan made his international debut against England in the third test at Rajkot on February 15, 2024. In his debut inning, Khan scored 62 runs off 66 balls before being run out on the non-strikers end due to a mix-up with eventual centurion Ravindra Jadeja. His innings featured nine fours and a six. Khan's fifty came in 48 balls, making it the joint-fastest 50 by an Indian cricketer on debut, alongside Hardik Pandya's 50 against Sri Lanka in 2017.
Sarfaraz Khan scored 68 not out from 72 balls in his debut test match's second innings, with a strike rate of 94.44. His innings featured six fours and three sixes. Sarfaraz Khan became the fourth Indian cricketer to score twin fifties on Test debut, following Dilawar Hussain, Sunil Gavaskar, and Shreyas Iyer. Sarfaraz has the highest strike rate (94.2) of the 43 batters who have scored 50 or more runs on debut in men's Tests (where balls-faced data is available). Khan shared a 158-run partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal for the fifth wicket at a run rate of 6.53 per over, the highest run rate for an Indian pair to add 150 or more runs in a Test innings and the seventh highest run rate for 150-plus balls in men's Tests (where data is available). It became India's highest and longest partnership of more than a run per ball in men's Test cricket. The partnership assisted India in setting a target of 557 for England in the fourth inning. India's target in Rajkot became their second highest in Test cricket, trailing only 617 against New Zealand in Wellington in 2009. This resulted in India's 434-run victory over England, the largest by runs for India in Test cricket and the second largest by any team against England, trailing only Australia's 562-run win at The Oval in 1934.
