• Preparation: Director Vishal Bhardwaj spent nearly a year researching and planning for the film, which is based on Shakespeare's Macbeth. He also collaborated extensively with the cast to assist them grasp the complexities of their roles.

• Location: The film was shot in numerous places throughout Mumbai, including the city's bustling streets and the renowned Victoria Terminus railway station.

Controversy 

In 2003, there was a dispute over the release of the film Maqbool. The film was based on William Shakespeare's tragedy Macbeth, and some Gujarati community members objected to a sequence in the film depicting the Hindu goddess Durga. A character dressed as Durga, complete with several limbs and guns, performed a dance in front of a group of gangsters in the contentious scene. The sequence was intended to be a metaphor for the character's power and might, however, several community members considered it offensive and disrespectful to their religious beliefs.
