The Tamil Film Producers Council was sued by T. Rajendar and Usha Rajendar, the late Silambarasan's parents, for the postponement of the movie due to the controversy surrounding Anbanavan Asaradhavan Adangadhavan (2017). According to reports, a council member requested that Silambarasan pay back the money that producer Michael Rayappan lost when the movie failed. They even threatened to kill the actor if he released the movie without paying back the money. If the perpetrators prevent the film's distribution, they threaten to protest outside the office of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin.
As numerous producers have recently filed complaints against the actor at the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce over various difficulties, Silambarasan spoke movingly about his personal and professional controversies during the pre-release event held in November 2021. He stated, In the last few months, I've dealt with a lot of issues. But I'll look after them. You people [fans] should look after me.
The minority wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party demanded that the Chief Minister outlaw the movie because it allegedly maligns Muslims. The matter was resolved when Tamil Nadu state president of the BJP, Annamalai K forbade BJP workers and members from criticising the movie further and described it as a lighthearted entertainment work produced with good intentions. This put an end to the dispute.
Given that it broke even four days after its debut, the movie was seen as a successful business effort. The movie made 118 crores ($15 million) at the end of the first week. The movie earned over 156 crores (US$20 million) in its first 25 days of release (19 December 2021), making it the second Silambarasan film to pass the 100-crore mark. The movie came third for Tamil box office receipts in 2021, behind Master and Annaatthe.
