Career

A man named Mama Shinde, who worked for Dadasaheb Phalke's Nasik Cinetone, found Leela Mishra. He convinced her husband to get her a role in a movie. When the Mishras traveled to Nasik for the shooting, it was clear that there was a severe shortage of female actors in movies at the time by looking at their paycheques. Ram Prasad Mishra received a salary of Rs. 150 per month when hired, but Leela Mishra received a salary of Rs. 500 per month. However, their contracts were terminated because they performed poorly in front of the camera.

The following opportunity was a job offer to work on the film Bhikarin, which was being made by a company that belonged to the Maharaja of Kolhapur. Leela Mishra, however, was unable to take advantage of this opportunity because it called for her to embrace the actor (who was not her husband) as she spoke, which she flatly refused to do.

While working on another movie called Honhaar, she encountered a comparable issue. She was paired as the heroine opposite Shahu Modak and was expected to embrace him, which she adamantly declined once more. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise for her because the company could not remove her from the movie because they were in a precarious legal position. She was offered Modak's mother's role in the film and it clicked instantly. She was able to play mother roles at the young age of 18 because of this.
