Career
After being selected for the under-15 Zonal Tournament in Bangalore, where he finished as the tournament's second-highest wicket-taker, Gowtham began his professional career. In his maiden Ranji Trophy game for Karnataka, which took place against Bengal in November 2012, he recorded two wickets, both of which came in the second innings.
Gowtham had a string of two consecutive five-wicket hauls in the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy season against Delhi and Assam. He posted his greatest bowling and batting scores ever (7/108) in the latter game.
The Mumbai Indians paid 2 crores in February 2017 to acquire Gowtham for the upcoming 2017 Indian Premier League season. On February 25th, 2017, he made his List A debut for Karnataka in the 2016–17 Vijay Hazare Trophy. Gowtham made history in the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy when he batted for Karnataka and made a century while facing Assam for the first time in October 2017.
Gowtham was acquired by the Rajasthan Royals in the 2018 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction in January. He was included in India B's Deodhar Trophy squad back in October of 2018.
Gowtham scored 134 runs off 56 deliveries and claimed 8 wickets for 15 runs for Bellary Tuskers versus Shivamogga Lions on August 23, 2019, in a Karnataka Premier League (KPL) match. There is no official Twenty20 status for KPL games. He joined India B's squad for the upcoming Deodhar Trophy in October 2019.
Gowtham was included as one of India's five net bowlers for their upcoming Test series against England in January 2021. Gowtham was acquired by the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL auction for the upcoming 2021 Indian Premier League season, which began in February 2021. Gowtham's price of INR 9.25 crores made him the most expensive uncapped player in IPL history.
For the series against Sri Lanka in June 2021, Gowtham was included in both India's ODI and T20I teams. On July 23 of that year (2021), he debuted for India in an ODI match against Sri Lanka.
