Career
He was first seen at the Duleep Sinh School of Cricket in Porbandar. His bowling impressed his coach, Ram Odedra. In 2010, when Jaydev Unadkat's age was just 19, he played for India in the Under-19 Cricket World Cup. In March 2020, Unadkat led Saurashtra to win the Ranji Trophy for the first time. After 12 years, Unadkat came back to the Test XI in December 2022.
Domestic Cricket
He plays domestic cricket for Saurashtra. In the Indian Premier League, he has played for a number of teams. He was one of the most expensive Indian players when he was picked up by Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2013. In May 2013, he had his best T20 bowling performance against the Delhi Daredevils (Delhi Capitals). He got 5/25 and was named Player of the Match.
In 2014, he was chosen by Delhi in the IPL auction, and in February 2016, the Kolkata Knight Riders won the auction by paying ₹160 lakh (US$200,000). He went to the Rising Pune Supergiants in February 2017. In the 10th IPL, he got a hat-trick against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the last over of the game.
Jaydev was selected for India Blue's squad for the 2018–19 Duleep Trophy in July and India B's team for the 2018–19 Deodhar Trophy in October.
He was the second bowler for Saurashtra to take 200 Ranji Trophy wickets in January 2019, and in August 2019, he was selected for the India Red team for the 2019–20 Duleep Trophy before being selected for the India A team for the 2019–20 Deodhar Trophy. With 67 eliminations in ten games, he was the 2019–20 Ranji Trophy's top wicket-taker. Since his 2010 debut, Jaydev has not played in a Test match.
Jaydev Unadkat was purchased by the Mumbai Indians in the auction for the 2022 IPL in February 2022. Later, he was purchased by the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL Auction 2023.
International Cricket
Jaydev made his international debut for India against South Africa in the first Test at Centurion in December of 2010 after playing for India's under-19 side in England in 2010 and taking 13 wickets on his first-class cricket debut against West Indies under-19s at Grace Road.
In June of 2016, Jaydev made his Twenty20 International (T20I) debut at Harare Sports Club, where Zimbabwe was the opposing team.
He was chosen to replace Kuldeep Yadav in the second Test against Bangladesh on December 22, 2022, in Mirpur. After a 12-year absence, Jaydev Unadkat has returned to the Test squad.
