Student Of The Year Cast and Plot

Student of the Year is a 2012 Hindi-language romantic comedy-drama film directed by Karan Johar, written by Rensil D'Silva and Niranjan Iyengar based on an uncredited story by Johar, and produced by Hiroo Yash Johar and Gauri Khan under the banners of Dharma Productions and Red Chillies Entertainment. Varun Dhawan, Sidharth Malhotra, and Alia Bhatt make their acting debuts in the film, which also features Rishi Kapoor, Sana Saeed, Ronit Roy, Manjot Singh, Sahil Anand, Ram Kapoor, and Farida Jalal in supporting parts.

Rohan "Ro" Nanda is a popular student and the son of the school's benefactor, businessman Ashok Nanda. Ashok opposes his passion for music and wants him to be a businessman like his older son Ajay. Shanaya Singhania, a wealthy and popular college student, is his girlfriend. Because of his persistent flirtation with Tanya Israni, another student and her adversary, she is displeased. Abhimanyu "Abhi" Singh, a new student from a middle-class family who aspires to be as wealthy as Ashok, quickly establishes himself as the school's heartthrob. Abhi is an orphan, and his grandma is the only person in his life who he genuinely loves. He and Ro don't get along at first, but after a football game, they become great friends.

Shanaya feels betrayed when she witnesses Ro flirting with Tanya during Ajay's wedding; in response, she openly flirts with Abhi, who subtly warns her off, in order to make Ro jealous. During this time, Abhi discovers that he has fallen in love with Shanaya as well. Back at school, the "Student of the Year" competition gets underway, with the first rounds consisting of a quiz, a treasure hunt, and a dance duel. Over the course of the tournament, Shanaya gradually develops affections for Abhi.

Before the dance fight, Abhi's grandma falls ill, and Abhi's aunt chastises him for bringing bad luck to every household he visits. Shanaya helps Abhi recover when his grandmother dies, and they share a kiss at a vulnerable moment, feeling attracted to one another. When Ro sees this, he and Abhi get into an argument. Ro is now motivated to win the challenge after a heated argument with Ashok back home.

The tournament concludes with a triathlon. In the end, Abhi, who was in the lead, unexpectedly slows down, allowing Ro to win the tournament. Ro, on the other hand, refuses the honour for personal reasons. Sudo scolds Yogi when Rohan resigns, claiming that the Student of the Year competition has always been manipulated from the beginning. Sudo claims that the rivalry shattered their two-year friendship and was unjust to Sudo, who was not as popular or gorgeous as Abhi or Rohan. He storms out after concluding his remarks. Yogi finally retires as a result of this. The pupils graduate quickly and lose touch with one another.

10 years on, Ro, a pop artist and Abhi, a wealthy investment banker stumble into one another when they arrive to see Yogi. Shanaya is now married to Abhi, and while reminiscing about their past, he and Ro end up fighting, releasing the rage they had been keeping back for the last ten years. Abhi also discloses the truth about the triathlon: he noticed that Ashok was pleased to see Ro lose, so he let Ro to win on purpose in order to exceed Ashok in stature. They both recognise the value of their relationship and reconcile. Both have a friendly running race at the end of the film.

Owing to its immense popularity, the movie got its sequel in the name of Student of the year 2 which released in 2019 and featured some very talented actors like Tiger Shroff, Ananya Pandey, Tara Sutaria, Harsh Beniwal and Manasi Joshi Roy in the lead roles.
