Asha attended Cotton Hill Girls Higher Secondary School in Vazhuthacaud, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala for her elementary and secondary education before moving on to St.Mary's Higher Secondary School in Pattom, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala for her secondary education. In Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, she attended the Government College for Women to earn a B.Com in commerce. She has fond childhood memories of playing gully cricket with her sibling and her cousins. She was a lifelong cricket fan who was influenced by Sachin Tendulkar's performance in India's 1998 Coca-Cola Cup match against Australia.
Asha Shobana was inspired to play women's cricket after seeing Neetu David, her idol, play for the Doordarshan channel, and the subsequent newspaper ad for the women's district teams' trials. She wanted to go to the trials but was nervous about telling her parents, so she contacted the Physical Education instructor at her school for a ride. Asha had already reached the age of 12 and a half when she made the squad. She began working with the Indian Railways in March of 2011.
Family
Asha Shobana family is from Peroorkada, a suburb of Thiruvananthapuram in the Indian state of Kerala. Asha Shobana’s father's name is B.Joy and he was a vehicle driver. Asha Shobana’s mother's name was S. Sobhana. Anoop Joy, her brother's name, who was employed with GAC Dubai. She tied the knot with Ashwin Vijay on the 2nd of January, 2017. As a cricket player, Ashwin played up for the Hyderabad squad.
Career
She joined the Thiruvananthapuram district women's cricket club when she was 12 and a half, and she quickly rose to the position of starting batswoman for the district squad. Her achievements with the district club caught the eye of Shabina Jacob, the former captain of the Kerala women's cricket team and now her coach. Shabina said that Asha would benefit from playing on the state squad and called her the most promising youngster. Asha was chosen for the Kerala women's squad that went to Chennai for the Senior Games in 2003, not long after Shabina first took notice of her, but she did not get any game time. At the age of 14, she debuted for the Senior Kerala team, where she would go on to become a prominent player and eventually the team's leader for nearly a decade.
2011-2012
Then she played for the South Zone, and at age 16, she made her first appearance. At the time of the Senior Women's T20 Challenger Trophy, Asha was 19 years old. She played for Kerala during the 2011/2012 season and contributed two fifty-plus scores and 10 wickets. In an inter-zone women's cricket tournament played in Ahmedabad in 2011, she grabbed 12 wickets in four games, making her the competition's leading wicket-taker. She made the Railways team because of her outstanding play.
She competed for the Indian Board President's Women XI on 10 March 2012, the day their team lost by 5 wickets to the touring Australian women's national team. Asha bowled three overs and got Meg Lanning out, and Lanning failed to score and was run out. Former India women's captain Mithali Raj, with whom she played for the South Central Railway women's squad, called her a gutsy cricketer. In the 2017–2018 Senior Women's Challenger Trophy, she played for India Blue, the women's cricket team formerly known as India A and captained by Smriti Mandhana. She bowled ten overs and got three wickets as India Blue beat India Green (formerly known as India B) by 33 runs in the final on 8 January 2018 at Holkar Stadium in Indore.
2018
In 2018, she competed for India against the touring Australian women's national team. She bowled six overs at an economy of 9.16 and batted 11 times in 19 balls on March 6th, 2018. She scored 13 runs off of 16 balls and had an economy rate of 4.75 in her four overs on March 8, 2018; Asha caught Alyssa Healy. With an Ibw, Jess Jonassen fired her. She took four wickets in an important match against the Himachal Pradesh women's team in the second round of the 2019-2020 Women's Senior T20 Trophy.
2020
In 2020, she took four wickets for the Railways side when they played the Goa women's cricket team. Asha played for the Railways team that took home the Women's Senior T20 Trophy for the upcoming season. In the 2020–2021 season, she played for the Railways squad that ultimately took home the Women's Senior One-Day Trophy.
2021-2022
Asha played for the Railways squad that took home the Women's Senior T20 Trophy in the 2021-22 season. After leaving the Railways team in 2022, she joined the Puducherry women's cricket team, where she had a successful season and caught the attention of WPL scouts.
Premier League for Women
When the Women's Premier League (WPL) began play in 2023, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) bought her services. She scored two runs and bowled two overs at an economy rate of 14.50 in their opening match against Delhi Capitals before being caught by Radha Yadav while attempting a pull shot. She made history when, on March 5, 2023, she participated in the first-ever season of the Women's Premier League (WPL). For the contests against the Mumbai Indians and the Gujarat Giants, she was not included in the starting lineup.
