Introduction
Sunrisers Hyderabad (stylised as SunRisers Hyderabad, abbreviated SRH) are an Indian Premier League franchise cricket team based in Hyderabad, Telangana (IPL). The franchise is owned by Kalanithi Maran of the SUN Group and was founded in 2012 after the IPL terminated the Hyderabad-based Deccan Chargers. Brian Lara is the team's current coach, and Aiden Markram serves as captain. The Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad, which has a capacity of 55,000, is their primary home ground.
The team made their first IPL appearance in 2013, reaching the playoffs and eventually finishing fourth. The Sunrisers won their first IPL title in 2016, defeating the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final by 8 runs. Since 2016, the team has qualified for the tournament's play-off stage in every season. The team reached the Indian Premier League finals in 2018, but lost to Chennai Super Kings. The team is regarded as one of the best bowling teams in the country, with a reputation for being able to defend low totals. David Warner leads the team in run scoring, having won the Orange Cap three times in 2015, 2017 and 2019. Bhuvneshwar Kumar leads the wicket-takers' chart, having won the Purple Cap twice, in 2016 and 2017. According to Brand Finance, the COVID-19 pandemic impacted the Sunrisers Hyderabad brand value, which fell 4% to US$57.4 million in 2020 as the overall brand value of the IPL fell to US$4.4 billion.
