The Family Man 2 went on air on 4 June 2021 with nine episodes. The series begins with LTTE leaders escaping an attack by the Srilankan army and moving into exile in foreign lands. The LTTE soldiers in exile try to assassinate their PM Rupatunga visiting India, as she tries to get custody of Subbu, the LTTE leader's brother, who is in exile in India. Srikanth, who has now quit the secret services, is forced to rejoin the Intelligence to save the Srilankan Prime Minister. Adding to the tension of the plot is the Pakistani terror unit from Season 1, trying to avenge their failed mission by kidnapping Srikanth's daughter. The season ends with Samantha, the LTTE soldier who was to kill the PM, plummeting her plane to death. Srikanth's daughter is rescued from the Pakistani terrorists.
The second half of 2023 might see The Family Man Season 3 go on air. The second season had a glimpse of a bio war akin to COVID-19 from China. What will be the nature of the attack this time, and how would it pose a threat to the Indian subcontinent? Will Srikanth and his team be able to defend his nation this time from an enemy from beyond the borders waging a biochemical war? That is something we will have to wait and watch.
In the video, Samantha can be seen casually dancing and singing during breaks. She jokingly mentioned that this was her way of preparing for her role in the series. Samantha played the character of Raji, an Eelam Tamil fighter in the show.
While The Family Man had a smooth sail and won hearts instantly, the second season ruffled many feathers. Samantha Akkineni's Hindi and television debut with this show as Raji received a lot of flake. The Tamil Nadu government raised objections to her being cast as an LTTE rebel.
There were also protests from numerous quarters for showcasing the Tamil Liberation movement as terrorists and anti-social elements, discrediting their decades of struggle in Srilanka.
People were also angered by the way Samantha was made to look darker to match the stereotypes of how Tamilians and Srilankans look.
They describe the series as a near-perfect Indian espionage thriller with well-written characters, attention to detail, and strong antagonists. The writing, production design, background score, and dialogues receive praise, while VFX is noted to have room for improvement. The second season is described as engrossing with sharp writing, well-choreographed action sequences, impressive performances, and a gripping screenplay. Manoj Bajpayee's outstanding acting, breathtaking cinematography, and excellent background score are acknowledged. The series is compared favorably to other Hindi thrillers while commending the blend of humor, action, and thrill. The show is recommended for binge-watching, with the improved level of Indian web series storytelling receiving appreciation.
The Family Man is a game-changer in the world of TV series, effortlessly blending the mundane with espionage. Its characters are humanized, reflecting the struggles of balancing personal and professional lives. The show's storytelling is brilliant, delving into vulnerabilities with a focus on shared humanity. It challenges stereotypes, offers fresh perspectives on intelligence work, and examines moral dilemmas. Seamlessly integrating socio-political themes, The Family Man is an unforgettable exploration of the human spirit.
