Govind and Pramila Shastri and their three kids, Vikrant, Dhruv, and Prerna, are introduced in the first season of Potluck. While Vikrant is married to Akansha and Dhruv is married to Nidhi, Prerna goes on a secret date with Aalim.
We first meet the Shastris at Dhruv and Nidhi Shastri's brand-new home, where Vikrant sees that he, too, needs a bigger place. But his wife Akansha doesn't agree with him, and his ideas also drive a wedge between Dhruv and Nidhi. Prerna goes on a random date and meets Aalim. Then it's shown how Govind got his family to come to the dinner, which Dhruv found out by accident. Nidhi tries to host a potluck by herself, and Vikrant and Akansha spend some valuable time together. Tensions rise when Aalim meets the Shastris and Dhruv tells the truth about Govind's lies, which leads to a fierce fight. After a bad accident, the family gets back together, making for a sweet homecoming.
The family drama series Potluck first aired on 10th september 2021 on Sony Liv. With 8 episodes in total and running time of 25 minutes each it takes the viewer on a journey of fun-filled family entertainment.
The season 2 was released on 24 February 2023.
The comedy was written by Ashwin Lakshmi Narayan and Gaurav Lulla. It plays on the idea that families are "together" and also shows how weird the Shashtri family is. It's usually fun to watch, especially when it gets back on track with the story, but it tends to lose its way. At times, the order of things seems to repeat itself. Character development, on the other hand, makes this drama more relatable. Whether it's sibling bonding, chemistry between modern couples, or worried parents who don't understand the idea of giving their kids some space, each character is unique and defies the definition of family bonding. Each episode starts with the family getting ready for the potluck, no matter what their personal equations or business goals are. Overall, this family story is easy to get through because there are only eight short episodes.
The group cast gives perfect performances, especially at the costume-themed anniversary party, where Saloni Khanna and Jatin Sial simply steal the show. The humour isn't laugh-out-loud funny, but it's always enjoyable and well-written, especially the back-and-forth between parents and children or husband and wife, which is full of metaphors.
'Potluck' doesn't bring anything new to the table, other than its modern package. But it's still fun to watch, in the same way that any family drama show with a good amount of humour is.
It would be an understatement to call Cyrus Sahukar's performance in the first season of Potluck nothing short of a masterclass in character acting. Cyrus brings a pleasant energy to his performance, which leaves the audience with an impression that will stay with them for a long time as a result of his perfect comedic timing and captivating on-screen presence.

As the plot develops, we see Cyrus flawlessly embodying the peculiarities and idiosyncrasies of his character. He deftly navigates the complexity of his role with a finesse that demonstrates his enormous acting talent and demonstrates how well he is able to portray the role.
In the splendid tapestry of characters, Ira Dubey weaves an exquisite portrayal of Akanksha, the wife of Cyrus Sahukar's character. With a grace that is both understated and captivating, Ira breathes life into Akanksha, a woman whose elegance and poise remain unruffled even in the face of the chaos that ensues.
Though her impeccable style and polished demeanor command attention, it is the gentle presence of a child on her hip that adds an ethereal quality to her character. The delicate balance between motherhood and the demands of everyday life is beautifully encapsulated in Ira's portrayal, as she effortlessly navigates through the ebbs and flows of her familial journey.
Jatin, with an audacious charm, acknowledges that being a friend to his children holds immeasurable value. He yearns for their trust, their unfiltered laughter, and their unabashed affection. Guided by an understanding that transcends traditional notions of parenthood, he chooses to navigate the winding paths of their lives with an open heart, ready to embrace the unconventional if it draws them closer.
Within the mesmerizing ensemble cast, Kitu Gidwani takes on the challenging role of the vexatious mother, injecting an intriguing dynamic into the narrative. Yet, amidst the tapestry of remarkable performances, there is a subtle discord that reverberates in Kitu's portrayal.
While her talent is undeniable, a fleeting sense of unease permeates through her interpretation of the character. It becomes evident that Kitu struggles to fully embrace the essence of her role, thus making it arduous for the audience to wholeheartedly believe in the character's authenticity, regardless of her concerted efforts.
Harman Singha, with his infectious enthusiasm and natural flair for comedy, effortlessly captures the essence of Dhruv's carefree and mischievous nature. His impeccable delivery and impeccable comedic timing add an extra layer of brilliance to the character, leaving the audience in splits with his witty one-liners and hilarious antics. Yet, beneath the surface, Harman reveals a nuanced understanding of his character, seamlessly transitioning into the more serious moments of the narrative with a finesse that showcases his versatility as an actor.
Saloni Patel, on the other hand, breathes life into Nidhi with her vivacious energy and impeccable comic sensibilities. Her impeccable timing and impeccable grasp of her character's quirks and idiosyncrasies make her a true comedic force to be reckoned with. Whether delivering razor-sharp punchlines or engaging in playful banter with her on-screen partner, Saloni effortlessly draws laughter from the audience, leaving them eagerly anticipating her next comical escapade. But it is in the moments of vulnerability that Saloni truly shines, bringing depth and authenticity to Nidhi's character, capturing the audience's hearts with her heartfelt performances.
As Prerna, Shikha Talsania masterfully navigates the complexities of her character, infusing her with a unique blend of wit, intelligence, and vulnerability. Her ability to effortlessly embody Prerna's strong convictions and unwavering belief in the power of words is a testament to her immense talent as an actor. Whether engaging in lively debates or immersing herself in the world of books, Shikha's portrayal of Prerna is nothing short of captivating, capturing the hearts of the audience with her undeniable charm.
Opposite Shikha, Siddharth Karnik gracefully assumes the role of Aalim, Prerna's love interest. Siddharth embodies the character with a quiet strength and refined demeanor that draws the audience into his enigmatic presence. With his calm and composed portrayal, Siddharth brings a sense of stability to the narrative, perfectly complementing Shikha's vibrant energy.
