A recently divorced single mother, her younger brother who is afraid of making long-term commitments, and her teenage daughter who is both intelligent and perplexed all make up a sweet and unconventional family of three who do their best to navigate dating, relationships, and life.

Vasudha (played by Lara Dutta), who has recently been divorced from her husband, Now has to look after her daughter Kavanya (played by Shinnova), who is in her teenage years; and her younger brother Akhil (played by Prateik Babbar), all of whom make a sweet, unconventional family which is open to each other about their dating lives, making the family of three try their best to handle dating, relationships, and other issues.

Vasudha is a 39-year-old working mother. Akhil goes to therapy and is terrified of making commitments. Akhil is also the co-founder of a dating app. And Kavanya (Kay), Vasudha's 18-year-old daughter, who doesn't beat about the bush and isn't afraid to call a spade a spade. Putting these three in the same building and adding a slew of other difficulties to the mix, such as a toxic workplace, heartbreaks, a dating life that isn't going anywhere, and a building that doesn't have enough water creates a funfilled series called “Hicuups and Hookups”

The first season of this comedy ruled the hearts of audience and the announcement for season 2 was also made on 29th January 2022.

Season 1 was released on 26th November 2021. The announcement for season 2 has also been made on 29th January 2022 but no further updates have been received.

Review

The series Hiccups and Hookups is funny and colourful, and, as the name suggests, it is not solely focused on sexual content. Although there is a significant amount of passionate kissing, the first original Indian production from Lionsgate Play is, at its core, a story of a dysfunctional family. Lara Dutta, Prateik Babbar, and Shinnova, a newbie, are the three protagonists who are navigating a world filled with unforeseen hiccups and intricate hook-ups.

Character Analysis

Lara Dutta as Vasudha

In just a few episodes, Lara Dutta, who first seems to be overacting a little bit, is able to settle into the role of Vasudha and get comfortable there. Very similar to how her character develops throughout the series. In the first episode, she is described as being "cold" but by the end of the season, she has met potential hookup partners in a variety of settings, including a bar, a yoga class, and even at her daughter's high school. But Vasudha isn't only trying to fill the emptiness in her life with mindless sex; she's also looking into new employment opportunities while she mulls over whether or not she should get a divorce or try to patch things up with her spouse. Despite having offended her brother and having her daughter isolate her for several days, by the time we get to the climax scene, Vasudha has gained some understanding. Her most potent moments are when she's having a meltdown accompanied by animated monologues.

Prateik Babbar as Akhil

 Prateik Babbar is a sluggish and algorithm-savvy programmer who goes by the name Akhil. Akhil juggles between two different personalities: one gets him right swipes on his dating app, while the other, which is his true self, offers him no matches. Prateik shines in the parts of the episode in which he and Lara enjoy screen time together. On the other hand, there are times when his acting ability seems to completely vanish into thin air. In addition, it should go without saying that he will be required to do a number of shirtless scenes.

Shinnova as Kavanya (Kay)

Shinnova's portrayal of the smart and sassy Kavanya, who doesn't need the assistance of a therapist to set the record right, deserves a standing ovation. "There are some solid problems in the three of us," she says. Something is going on here. We do not conform to the norm. She is without a doubt the best actor in the group; her appearance on television simply draws attention to the obvious lack of talent displayed by the rest. Shinnova combines, in the perfect proportions, the rebellious mindset of a school kid with the maturity of someone who is dealing with parents who are alienated from each other.

Awards

The eight episodes of the show Hiccups and Hookups are quick and easy to watch. As soon as you become intertwined in the lives of Vasudha, Akhil, and Kavanya, you will make it to the end of the story, albeit with a little bit of wriggling here and there. Hiccups and Hookups, which is a remake of the series Casual, is sure to be a hit with viewers who are able to observe a single mother's exploits on a dating app without passing judgement on them.
