Introduction

Citadel is an upcoming American science fiction action thriller television series created by David Weil for Amazon Prime Video and executive produced by the Russo brothers. Citadel agents Mason Kane and Nadia Sinh are played by Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, respectively.

The series has spinoffs in other nations and languages. All of the local series are meant to enhance the overall entertainment experience and will be available for the viewer to deep dive into an imagined layered world, according to Amazon. Raj & DK will helm the Indian series, which will star Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu.  Amazon Studios and Cattleya, a division of ITV Studios, will collaborate on the Italian series.

Citadel Indian Version

Priyanka Chopra  Jonas returned to India to promote her upcoming American Web series Citadel. Priyanka Chopra welcomed the actor Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu with open arms. She said, "So pleased about the world of Citadel spreading,"  in an image shared on her Instagram stories. Further, she added, "I am overjoyed to share it with you all." Samantha will co-star with Varun Dhawan in the Indian installment of the 'Citadel' universe, a worldwide event series produced by Prime Video and the Russo Brothers' AGBO. Sita R Menon, Raj, and DK collaborated on the untitled Citadel series set in India. The streaming site also stated that filming is now taking place in Mumbai. The unit will then travel to North India before continuing to overseas destinations such as Serbia and South Africa. The untitled Indian original series 'Citadel' will be available to Prime members in over 240 countries and territories worldwide.

Behind the scene

Citadel's seeds were seeded by Amazon Studios president Jennifer Salke, who approached the Russo brothers and their independent studio AGBO in mid-2018 about producing an ambitious, global spy drama. The series was created in collaboration with AGBO and the screenwriting duo Midnight Radio (Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec). However, because of creative differences with the Russos, they left the program during production in 2021, and David Weil took over as the new showrunner. This shift in direction necessitated lengthy reshoots in 2022.

'There are multiple characters and multiple storylines that all intertwine,' Richard Madden said of the script and his role. 'I personally play an amnesiac—eight years of his life, he's basically become a new person.' There is a trip to uncover who he was before the disaster, and he has no memory of anything. It's a conflict between the life he's lived for the past eight years and the life he used to live. You get to investigate the psychology of dealing with the consequences of actions you aren't aware of.'

In an interview with WWD, Priyanka Chopra discussed Citadel and what we might expect from the program. 'Then I have the polar opposite — a spy show with the Russo brothers for Amazon Prime starring Richard Madden and Stanley Tucci.' It's called Citadel, and it's going to be incredible. It took a lot of effort. 'I have numerous scars to prove it.'

Citadel, with a budget of $300 million, was the second most costly series of all time as of 2023. This is partly owing to the massive reshoots that occurred when David Weil was hired as showrunner.

The main series began filming in January 2021 and finished in December. However, reshoots took place in the spring and summer of 2022, overseen by Weil, the Russos, and director Thomas Sigel.
