Before the show's premiere, the creators released a behind-the-scenes video in which Bobby discusses the character arc of 'Bhagwan' Baba Nirala, the audience's reaction to his character, and his experience playing the self-proclaimed godman. Bobby stated in the video, "I really enjoyed playing my character this time, even more than last time, because you see him losing control, his grip on what he is, and showing the true side of himself, of what he really wants."
In December 2020, Bobby Deol and director Prakash Jha were served with a legal notice by Jodhpur Court after Karni Sena filed a case against the actor and director for hurting their sentiments and claiming that the show "is an attempt to discredit Hinduism and Ashrams." The Bajrang Dal group vandalised Aashram web series sets and Prakash Jha in October 2021 for defaming Hindus and the entire aashram system through his web series, and the sets were vandalised. Director Prakash Jha stated that "They will voice their concerns, but I think about the thousands who see my project in the correct manner. It is not a coincidence that 1.5 billion people watched it.
Prakash Jha's digital debut is ambitious, provocative, and action-packed, according to Saibal Chatterjee, writing for NDTV. He praised the actors' performances as well as the director Prakash Jha's concept handling. Aashram is "a show that lacks the courage of its convictions," according to Rohan Nahaar of the Hindustan Times. Jha's self-censorship of sex scenes exemplifies his apprehension about the story. That ridiculous disclaimer, it turns out, was completely unnecessary.``
