Saurabh Patwardhan is actively looking for work, whereas Anamika Dixit runs her own firm and is self-employed. Saurabh lives with his brother Sachin, sister-in-law Pushpavalli, and aunt Kunda Maimavshi, whereas Anamika is divorced from her husband and lives with her daughter Radha Dixit and her mother-in-law Rama Joshi. 

Pushpavalli and her father, Appa, are constantly looting Saurabh by putting on acts, while Radha is proud of her financial success.

The friendship that began in college reappears when Saurabh and Anamika are brought together again by their mutual friend, Chandu Chimane. Although Saurabh has feelings for Anamika, he has made a promise to his late parents that he will not get married until Sachin has established himself financially. 

Pushpavalli does not want Sachin to marry her because she believes that if Anamika comes to their house, she will eventually take ownership of it. When Anamika's mother, Kaveri Dixit, arrives in town, she makes the decision to split her daughter up from Saurabh. This causes things to take an unexpected turn.
