Plot

The television series presents the life of Rama, who is regarded as the seventh manifestation of Lord Vishnu. It demonstrates his ability to overcome difficulties in his life and how his life served as a source of motivation. Additionally, it highlights the comprehensive suffering and long journey undertaken by the protagonist in his quest to rescue his beloved spouse, Sita (a manifestation of Goddess Lakshmi), from the claws of the rakshasa ruler Ravana, who forcibly took her.

Baal Kand

Ayodhya is ruled by King Nemi, who is married to three women: Kaushalya, Kaikeyi, and Sumitra. In instances where the asura Sambrasur creates havoc on Earth, the deities seek the aid of Nemi in engaging in combat against him. The protagonist is accompanied by Kaikeyi, who observes throughout the course of the combat that one of his chariot wheels has become dislodged, as a result of the bolt responsible for securing the wheel in position having detached. She slides her finger into the bolt hole, maintaining the stability of the wheel, but experiencing intense agony. The conflict culminates in a triumph for Nemi, who is renowned for his adeptness in fast manoeuvring his chariot in all 10 directions, earning him the appellation of Dasharatha. Appreciating Kaikeyi's contribution to his triumph, he bestows upon her two blessings, although she elects to preserve them since she finds satisfaction in her existence. Later, Dasharatha embarks on a hunting expedition and hears the sound of gurgling in the vicinity. Erroneously perceiving the origin as an elephant, he shoots his arrow towards it, resulting in its impact on a youthful individual named Shravana, who was procuring water for his visually impaired parents. Driven by a profound sense of remorse, Dasharatha proceeds to apprise Shravana's parents about his demise and openly admits to the act of causing his demise, although inadvertently. Shravana's parents succumb to sadness after losing their sole source of support. In the latter moments of his life, Shravana's father utters a curse against Dasharath, foretelling that he will too experience the separation from his cherished offspring, thereby serving as the catalyst for his demise. Dasharath seeks guidance from his mentor Vashishtha, who perceives this affliction as a potential blessing, suggesting that the childless Dasharatha may eventually bear a male offspring. Dasharatha engages in the Putrakàmèsti yagna, during which he is bestowed with a sacred bowl of payasam, which he then distributes to his spouses. Kaushalya and Kaikeyi give birth to Rama, Bharata, and twins Lakshmana and Shatrughna, respectively. After reaching a certain age, the princes are entrusted by Dasharatha to attend Guru Vashishtha's ashram in order to get formal education.

During a twelve-year drought in Mithila, the childless king Janak constructs a golden plough and uncovers a little girl while cultivating. The initial cry of the infant results in precipitation. Rishi Yagyavalkya proposes that Janak retain custody of the infant and subsequently bestows upon her the name Sita. Subsequently, Janak and his spouse give birth to another daughter, whom they name Urmila. Kushadhwaja, the younger brother of Janak, is also the father of two girls, namely Mandavi and Shutkirti. During her play with her sisters, Sita successfully lifts the Shiv Dhanush, a seemingly impossible commitment. After observing this event, Janaka makes the decision to exclusively offer Sita's hand in marriage to the individual who possesses the ability to accomplish the same task.

Few years later

Rama and his siblings grow up and come back to Ayodhya after finishing their schooling. In order to drive out the demon queen Tataka, Guru Vishvamitra transports Ram and Lakshman from Ayodhya. Taraka and her son Subahu are later killed by Rama and Lakshman, while Rama shows kindness towards her son Maricha, who pledges to give up his evil qualities. According to Guru Vishvamitra, he expresses his intention to accompany both individuals to Mithila in order to seek the blessings of Shiv Dhanush. During his journey to Mithila, Rama sees the ashram belonging to Rishi Gautam and Ahilya, where he alleviates her from the curse that had rendered her inert. Lord Ram visits Mithila, and their initial encounter takes place at the Parvati temple. Afterwards, the announcement of Sita's Swayamvar takes place. Ram is the only one capable of lifting the Shiv Dhanush in the Swayamvara. The union between Ram and Sita has been finalised.King Dashrath, recognising Urmila and her cousins' intellect and wisdom, desires the marriage of Ram's brothers and Sita's sisters, in addition to Ram and Sita. He communicates his opinions to Raja Janak, who concurs. In the play Mithila Sita, the characters Urmila, Mandhavi, and Shutkirti are linked to the characters Ram, Lakshman, Bharat, and Shatrughan, respectively.

Ayodhya Kand

In Ayodhya, Ram, Lakshman, Bharat, and Shatrughna arrive accompanied by their respective brides. They are warmly received by Kaushalya, Kaikeyi, and Sumitra. Subsequently, An Aghori makes a prognostication regarding Manthara's forthcoming fate, announcing her removal from the palace.
