Plot

Meera Plot.tringEarly in the 16th century, in the Rajasthani village of Khudki, the famed poet saint Meera was born a princess. Her father was Ratan Singh, the youngest child of Rao Dooda, who ruled the Merta state of Marwar at the time. A great saint named Raidasji said that Meera was destined for greatness from the moment of her birth and that her accomplishments would make her family prominent throughout the ages.

Meera wants a Gudda (doll) she can wed when she is about 8 or 9 years old. Meera is given the idol of Lord Krishna by Saint Raidas-ji, and she immediately falls in love with the Lord. Meera firmly thinks that she is married to the Lord. Soon after, she is set to marry Bhoj Raj, Rana Sangha of Chittor's son. However, Meera refused to accept the prince as her husband and continued to be mentally, emotionally, and spiritually wed to the Lord. After getting married, her life was continuously derailed because so few people could relate to her dedication to and faith in Lord Krishna. She had a lovely singing voice and was endearing, talented, gentle, and soft-spoken. She was a gifted poet and one of the main figures of Prema Bhakti (Divine Love).

Soon after, Meera begins to care for Bhoj Raj, but she is firm about not accepting him as her husband. Later, Bhoj Raj dies fighting in a war. Rana Sangha, too passes away while fighting. Vikramaditya becomes the new King as a result. He begins to feel intense affection for Meera, who is consistently saved by her mother-in-law. With Lalita, she quickly departs Chittod while feeling heartbroken. She gives her mother-in-law her idol of Krishna, adding that it has been a part of her life since she was a young girl. But she learns of her brother Jaimall's passing when she returns to Merta. She visits Dwarka and Vrindavan on pilgrimage after living there for a while. After years of labour, she vanishes into the Master's idol, signalling that she has obtained Moksha and has arrived at her lord. Since Lalita is always present wherever Meera is, she also jumps into the water to end her life.
