Plot

Tulsidas Parekh, who is always angry is the patriarch of a family that is more dreaded in certain circles in Mumbai than crime syndicates. Due to Tulsidas' exceedingly ignorant elder son Praful and his equally stupid wife Hansa, Tulsidas' gossip-obsessed widowed daughter-in-law Jayshree, and Hansa's similarly foolhardy caterer brother Himanshu, not even the police have the will to deal with them. This is because Praful and Hansa are both as stupid as each other. Tulsidas' only solace can be found in his bright grandkids, Jackie, who is Jayshree's son, and Chakki, who is Praful and Hansa's daughter. In each new episode, the zany family undertakes increasingly odd excursions, which inevitably devolve into hysterical mayhem.

The joint family is faced with a number of circumstances that are typical of India; nonetheless, they attempt to tackle these problems in the most untraditional way possible. This is a peculiar group of individuals that are solidly unified in their campaign to break apart from one another. They intend to sell the property that has been in their family for generations and then relocate to start their own nuclear families. However, the head of their family does not concur with this decision. He gives them the option to go and make their own way in the world, but nobody is willing to give up the money that is rightfully theirs. Therefore, they continue to remain together and wait for the 'head' to either alter his mind or quit breathing, whichever occurs first. And it is in this arena that the up-and-coming, middle-class joint family finds itself confronted with its many challenges. The comedy that may be found inside an Indian joint family is explored in Khichdi.
