Yashoda - 2022

The action thriller Yashoda is a 2022 Indian Telugu film that was written and directed by Hari-Harish. Samantha plays the title character, and she is joined by Unni Mukundan, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, and Murali Sharma in the cast of this film. Mani Sharma was the one who was responsible for composing the score for the movie, while M. Sukumar and Marthand K. Venkatesh were in charge of the cinematography and editing, respectively. On November 11th, 2022, the movie was finally made available to the public. Although it was met with conflicting opinions from the film's reviewers, Yashoda was a commercial success.

Yashoda, who works at Zomato, becomes a surrogate mother so she can pay for her sister's surgery. She is brought to Eva, a cutting-edge surrogacy facility run by Dr. Madhubala. Yashoda befriends some of the surrogate mothers and spends time with them. They discover that they are all in need of money and are all in a poor financial situation. In order to keep herself and her child healthy and safe, surrogate mother Yashodha is advised to abide by a few rules, but something unexpected happens at the surrogate centre that puts them both in danger. The story unfolds as to how Yashoda and her friends from the surrogacy centre learn the shocking truth about Madhubala and how they ultimately succeed in escaping.

The film was released on November 11 in 2022 in both the Telugu original and in dubs of Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malyalam. On December 9, 2022, the Telugu version of the movie made its Amazon Prime Video debut alongside dubs in Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam. The Telugu version made its television debut on ETV on February 5, 2023. 

 Reviews

Critics and viewers had mixed to good opinions of Yashoda. The Times of India's Neeshitha Nyayapathi gave Yashoda 3.5 out of 5 stars and stated, "Yashoda is the film to catch this weekend if you're looking for something beyond the usual masala fare or love stories."The movie received a 2.75 out of 5 star rating from Priyanka Sundar of Firstpost, who also stated, "Samantha is brilliant in Yashoda that falters in effectively landing its shocking twists and turns." The film received a 2 out of 5 star rating from Manoj Kumar R of The Indian Express, who also stated, "Film's grindhouse treatment negates the impact of Samantha's performance, which has a lot of conviction." Yashoda received a 2.5 out of 5 star rating from Sowmya Rajendran of The News Minute, who also commented, "Yashoda has quite a few loose ends as it draws to a close, leaving the viewer unsatisfied."

• Samantha- Samantha Ruth Prabhu is a well-known name in Indian cinema, particularly in the Telugu and Tamil film industries. She has been honoured with a number of awards, among them being four Filmfare Awards South.

• Unni Mukundan- Unni Mukundan is a well-known name in the Malayalam film industry as an actor, as well as a producer and a singer in India.He has also appeared in a couple Telugu films as an actor. Unni Mukundan made his debut in the role of a lead actor in the Tamil version of Nandanam titled Seedan. 

• Varalaxmi Sarathkumar- Varalaxmi Sarathkumar is a well-known actress in India who has worked in films in the languages of Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. She was first seen in the movie Podaa Podi, which was in Tamil.

Character Analysis

Samantha as Yashoda

Yashoda is a good-natured woman who puts in a lot of effort at her job at Zomato. She exhibits a high level of compassion and courtesy. In order to help raise money for his sister's medical procedure, Yashoda makes the decision to become a surrogate mother. As soon as she steps foot inside the surrogacy centre, she immediately makes friends with all of the women working there, and over time, she comes to the conclusion that something unethical and unlawful is taking place there. She makes the decision to do something about it and exposes the surrogacy racket that has been operating in that location.

Varalaxmi Sarathkumar as Dr. Madhubala

Madhubala is a very self-centered woman who is only concerned with outward appearances and trivial matters. She was willing to do whatever it took to make money while also maintaining her youth and beauty. Madhubala resorts to unethical practises in order to achieve her objectives, causing unnecessary suffering to innocent women through her surrogacy racket.
