Plot

The movie Ventilator revolves around the Kamerkar family, whose annual Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations are threatened when the respected elder, Gajanan, falls into a coma and is placed on life support. This news reaches his nephew, Raja, a renowned Bollywood director, during a film screening.

The family, bewailing Gajanan's condition, also frets about the fate of their festival if he passes away. The members converge at the hospital, each with their concerns and personal issues. Among them Prasanna, Gajanan's son, who has always felt neglected by his father in favor of his sister Sarika and his cousin Raja.

Simultaneously, Raja has to handle his estrangement from his own father. Amid the chaos, the arrival of cousin Lata from the USA with a family tree drawing sparks revelations about past misunderstandings, particularly around Gajanan's relationship with his son, Prasanna. It is revealed that contrary to Prasanna's beliefs, Gajanan loved him deeply and had faced hardships for his sake.

Having learned about his father's love for him, Prasanna decides to stay at the hospital and requests the doctor to keep his father on the ventilator longer. This family bonding cultivates a shift in the hospital's atmosphere and prompts Raja to mend ties with his own father. In the end, the still-ventilated Gajanan, manages to smile, leaving a hopeful ending.

Reviews

ventilator movie scene

Ventilator is a vibrant and heartwarming cinematic treat that beautifully captures the boundless dynamics of a joint family. A roster of diverse characters, from a beloved uncle to a rebel son, creates a rich palette of personalities that every viewer can relate to. Alike the 2016 National Award-winning Marathi film it's adapted from, this film is equally creative and commendable.

The exceptional directorship of Umang Vyas and the creative guard of Rajesh Mapuskar ensures the film weaves a seamless narrative despite featuring over 30 characters. The essence of a true Gujarati family is depicted exceptionally, both in the bustling city of Ahmedabad and the serene hamlet of Chorvad.

The film glows with merits in screenwriting and lyrics courtesy of Niren Bhatt, whose Gujarati-fied blueprint imparts the movie an authentic local touch. Parth Bharat Thakkar's splendid renditions amplify the tale's emotional resonance.

When it comes to performances, it's hard to miss the brilliance of the cast. Jackie Shroff's debut in Gujarati cinema is memorable, his star power further elevating the film's charm. Pratik Gandhi delivers another noteworthy performance that enriches his well-regarded career.

The ensemble cast comprises talent of high order. Utkarsh Mazmudar, Sucheeta Trivedi, Mehul Buch, and Tejal Vyas, deliver impeccable performances, enhancing the movie's vitality. Sanjay Goradia continues to amuse spectators with his knack for comedy, while Manan Desai, Ojas Rawal, Prem Gadhavi, and Deep Vaidya provide fun moments. Jayesh More's distinct character portrayal and cameos by Juhi Chawla and Malhar Thakar are added delights.

The production value is remarkable, with careful attention to detail that enhances the overall storytelling. The movie's pace is well-maintained, shifting smoothly between humorous and emotional turns.

The ventilator is replete with humour and heartfelt emotion. Its blend of wit and sentiment makes for a truly uplifting cinematic experience, likely to appeal to viewers of all ages who appreciate family-centric narratives. Whether you love comedy or relish an emotionally engaging story, Ventilator has got you covered. Highly recommend!

Character Analysis

Ashutosh Gowariker as Raja Kamerkar

  1. Ashutosh Gowariker brilliantly portrays the character of Raja Kamerkar, a famous Bollywood film director in the film. His character is down-to-earth with a touch of sophistication, reflecting his city dwelling lifestyle. Despite his professional success, his roots remain in his small town, which becomes evident when he rushes home upon hearing about his father's ill-health. Gowariker brings warmth and subtlety to his character, depicting the dilemma of balancing personal concern and professional commitments.

Jitendra Joshi as Prasanna Kamerkar

Jitendra Joshi does an excellent job depicting Prasanna's character, a family man who bears the responsibility and stress of organizing his ailing father's care. Prasanna is constantly on the move, juggling various duties, often the mediator in family conflicts. He shows the struggles and sacrifices one has to make when caring for an older parent.

Sulbha Arya as Manda (Prasanna's mother)

Sulbha Arya's character Manda is the epitome of a mother's strength and love. She is shown as coping with her husband's hospitalization, displaying grace under pressure. Manda is a strong woman who remains hopeful and resilient despite the emotionally draining circumstances.

Sukanya Kulkarni as Sarika (Prasanna's sister)

Kulkarni presents Sarika as a supportive and caring sister who stands by Prasanna through the thick and thin. Despite being immersed in her own life and problems, she pushes aside everything to support her family. Kulkarni efficiently portrays the character's emotions, further enhancing the film's family dynamic.
