The revenge drama starring Trisha Krishnan, titled 'The Road', released its official trailer on September 21, 2023. Notable filmmakers Pa Ranjith and Gautham Vasudev Menon unveiled the trailer. The film, penned and helmed by Arun Vaseegaran, has hit theatres on October 6.
The promotional trailer of the film opens with an intriguing quote from Friedrich Nietzsche: “In revenge and in love woman is more barbaric than man is.” This compelling introduction is followed by the narrative unfolding around Trisha's character and her investigation into a range of mysterious accidents taking place in a particular region along the NH44 highway. It becomes evident, as the story progresses, that a significant and insidious conspiracy, eerily reminiscent to methods employed by the Mexican cartel, is behind these deadly occurrences. The plot of 'The Road' is reportedly inspired by true events that transpired in the early 2000s.
'The Road' is a thriller film directed by Arun Vaseegaran, starring Trisha, Santhosh Prathap, Shabeer Kallarakkal, and Miya George. The story follows journalist Meera (Trisha) as she uncovers a mysterious group involved in her family's staged accident near Madurai. The plot of the movie is promising at first, but quickly loses its way due to poor execution and frustratingly slow pacing.
While the acting is commendable, especially by Trisha and Shabeer Kallarakkal, the film's narrative fails to provide a solid foundation for their performances. The overuse of melodrama, sentimentality, and a loud background score by Sam CS tends to overshadow what could have been a much more impactful movie.
The direction and editing leave much to be desired, but the visuals and graphics serve their purpose in this genre film. However, the movie falters because it often demands suspension of disbelief, asks the audience to overlook illogical actions, and features cliché plot devices that undermine the potential for thrills.
The unnecessary vilification of tribals, as well as weak writing and an implausible climax, leave a lasting negative impression. It is unfortunate to see talented actors like Trisha, Shabeer, and MS Bhaskar involved in a project that doesn't showcase their full potential.
In conclusion, 'The Road' is a missed opportunity for a thrilling and compelling story. Despite the promising start, the film is let down by inexpert direction, inconsistent storytelling, and character arcs that fail to deliver. This film may not appeal to those who are looking for a captivating and well-paced thriller. It is disappointing to see the talented cast underutilized, and one can only hope they will find roles that truly reflect their capabilities in the future.
