The official trailer of the movie is released , considering the trailer the narrative revolves around India middle class family, The Mishras. The film explores the changing whirlwind emotions within a family.
The story revolves around Pandit Ji Bhajan Kumar aka Ved Vyas Tripathi played by our brown munda Vicky Kaushal, who comes from a family of generational priests. Bhajn Kumar is undisputedly famous for his devotional songs. The only sorrow Ved has that people of his age are out having fun while he's give blessings.
The trailers unfolds when Ved recieves a letter, which discloses his previous birth identity. The says Bhajan to be born in a Muslim family. Further the movie focuses on Ved's transformation journey of how he accepts himself as a Muslim and being treatred differently by others.
'The Great Indian Family' brings to its audience a much-needed message of unity and inclusivity, ideal for the current sociopolitical climate, and addresses the perceived otherness within society. Though it may stumble during its 112-minute runtime, it commendably promotes harmony and counters narratives that fuel animosity.
The story revolves around Billu (Vicky Kaushal), a successful bhajan singer who discovers his religious identity is different from his Hindu priest father, sparking crises in his family and personal life. The film tactfully handles religious tensions and unapologetically challenges the attempts to impose a single religious color or belief system on Balrampur's residents.
Performances in the film are noteworthy, with Vicky Kaushal delivering a vibrant and energetic portrayal as the protagonist. Kumud Mishra and Manoj Pahwa provide exceptional support, although Manushi Chhillar's character, Jasmine, is slightly under-explored despite the importance of her perspective.
The direction artfully captures the garish and high-pitched world inhabited by Billu and his devout Hindu family. Cinematographer Ayananka Bose amplifies the bold colors and intricacies, which complement the film's thematic discourse, showing unity in diversity.
While some aspects of the film may seem problematic at first glance, the script eventually clarifies the intended message and purpose, urging the audience to appreciate and respect those who are different from them.
In terms of pacing, the movie navigates various dynamics, shifting gears from lighthearted to serious moments. The editing could have been smoother to maintain a coherent feel throughout the film.
Though animation and graphics don't play a significant role in 'The Great Indian Family,' their inclusion wouldn't have detracted from the film's strong essence. Engaging in a family narrative as a reflection of society and the nation, it could have achieved greater acuity but still manages to find its mark.
'The Great Indian Family' will appeal to those who appreciate films with social and political undertones, as well as those who enjoy a blend of drama and comedy. The story's overarching theme of unity amid diversity and its critique of narrow-mindedness are apt for the current times. However, it may fall short for movie-goers seeking a more subtle narrative that delves deeper into the complex intricacies of religion and society.
The movie was released theatrically on 22nd september 2023. The trailer of the movie was out on Youtube and we can see powerful music and bright visuals, glimpses of family comdy drama.
'Meeting this family is like riding a rollercoaster that guarantees, fun, frolic and a host of mental and sentimental emotions. Buy tickets for the whole family! Issued in the public interest of entertainment,' Bhajan says at the end of the trailer.
