The film opens with newly appointed DSP trainee, Prakash, being assigned to work with SP Loganathan by ADGP Mahendran. Initially reluctant, Loganathan agrees to mentor Prakash and the new technical assistant, Veena. The trio journey to Trichy from Chennai to investigate the brutal murder of a young girl in the woods.

The peculiar killing method - the victim was strangled from front with an iron wire in a kneeling position - and lack of signs of assault suggest the work of a large, perhaps unusually, powerful man. A hematoma on her neck points to specific pressure points being used to knock her unconscious before being kidnapped.

As anticipations come true, several young women are killed in the same fashion, triggering the realization that they are dealing with a serial killer. As the investigation proceeds, Prakash and Loganathan find common aspects in all victims – their age group (early-mid 20s) and the locations of their bodies.

They further find out that these murders are relapses of killings that happened between 1973 and 1979. Prakash and Loganathan pay a visit to the house of Inspector John Sebastian, who investigated the initial murders. Although they meet his son Kennedy instead, they gather significant clues and suspicions about him being involved in the murders.

While the duo fails to find any incriminating evidence to pin Kennedy, their attention is diverted when another suspect is arrested and confesses, only to die by suicide the next day.

Undeterred and convinced that Kennedy is the actual killer, Prakash and Loganathan persist. After Prakash is attacked by Kennedy, Loganathan rescues him and Kennedy confesses to the murders in the 1970s, explaining that he had done so to keep his abusive father distracted.

However, Kennedy also reveals that he has revealed his pressure point attacks to a faceless assailant who claimed to know him since the '70s. Upon further investigation, it is revealed that the faceless assailant is an NGO worker and is the one responsible for the recent serial murders.

The film concludes with a thrilling chase into a deep forest, where Prakash and Loganathan ultimately catch up with and eliminate the serial killer. They then rush Loganathan, injured in the process, to the hospital. After recovery, Prakash donates his music player to a troubled boy from his neighborhood, thus ending the film on a hopeful note.

Por Thozhil was released on June 9, 2023, causing excitement and passion among fans of Indian cinema. Now you can watch it on Sony LIV from 11th August 2023 in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada languages.

Through the use of arcs for the protagonists and backstories for the villains, filmmaker and writer Vignesh Raja has created a continually interesting movie with a more subtle message.

Prakash's main character is a trainee who recently joined the Superintendent of Police for a case. Despite not truly enjoying his profession as a police officer, he was forced to accept it by his family. Prakash is tasked with helping SP Lokanathan with his first investigation. 

The film discusses Lokanathan's specific investigation into several cases of young women's deaths in and around Trichy. Por Thozhil shows Prakash's struggle and the lessons he learns through this investigation.

It accepts the new genre cliché of making things ambiguous by empathising with the psychopath, which is quite brilliant. The movie contains a scene when Prakash and Lokanathan argue over the initial stages of a serial killer. In reality, the backstories of the antagonists in this movie humanise them without necessarily defending their actions.

In the movie, almost every character has a backstory. And to narrate each, they used various techniques and tones. Kennedy's explanation of his motivation for joining the service is actually very horrific and thorough, in contrast to Prakash's slightly funny narrative.

Director Vignesh Raja gives the suspenseful element a high priority, and as a result, the movie only sometimes fails to generate tension. The movie's overall pacing is outstanding since it never dwells on one scene or action for an excessive amount of time.

In particular, the combination of colours and shadows in the cinematography evokes the classic qualities of a thriller revolving around a serial killer. The background score that Jakes Bejoy composed was quite excellent.

This movie is not getting into an unexplored setting, nor is it rethinking an existing method of operation. However, it changes the formula to produce a drama about a serial killer that will keep your interest until the end.
