The movie opens with a Chicago vehicle pursuit that ends in a fight between an apparent Jude Rosario and a Matthew Brody-like American man. As a result of the altercation, Brody disappears after slipping into the Chicago River's frigid waters. Rosario is ultimately detained and found guilty of killing the victim as a result.
The office of Indian RAW leader Roy, where he and his dependable men are preparing for a risky clandestine operation, is shown in a flashback from six months earlier. The character, identified as Jude Rosario in the opening sequence, is revealed to be Captain Daniyal Khan, a completely cynical ex-soldier who was plucked from obscurity and pressed into service by the spy agency to exact revenge on the individuals responsible for the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. Regaining the respect of his estranged father, retired Col. Usman Khan, and mentor, Dilawar Singh, he agrees on the condition that he will be reinstated in the Indian army to the same rank from which he was court-martialed. Nawaz Mistry, his lone teammate, assists him in locating his first target, Sajid Mir, at a cricket game in London. To prove his identity after breaking into Sajid's flat, Daniyal sets off an explosion that kills him. Daniyal then claims it was an accident, which prompts the Pakistani ISI to launch an investigation.
Daniyal, aka Jude, is currently being held in the same prison as David Headley, who will be his next victim. In order to get money to purchase a battery to replace another that contains a specific toxin, he contacts Nawaz. The poison, which can kill a person when it touches the tongue and causes a heart attack, is undetectable. Daniyal kills Headley by inserting the deadly battery into a showerhead he frequently uses. Brody, who was thought to have drowned in the river, is discovered alive, and his earlier sentence is overturned, allowing Daniyal to be released. Agents of the ISI are investigating him in the meantime.
Daniyal and Nawaz travel from Lebanon to Syria in order to contact Lashkar-e-Toiba fighters. Daniyal is compelled to confess the L-e-T's motivation for killing Sajid Mir and David Headley on camera while being held captive there. The head of L-e-T in Syria makes every effort to transfer the footage of Daniyal's confession to ISI, but communication networks have been severely disrupted due to the country's ongoing civil war. Much to Daniyal's dismay, Nawaz murders L-e-T's subordinates with the help of her team of troops.
After a brutal gunfight, Daniyal, Nawaz, and the squad manage to escape the L-e-T's grasp. Just as the Syrian L-e-T chief was going to submit the film to the ISI, Daniyal managed to assassinate him and destroy the tapes. In retaliation, the ISI killed Mr Rajan Sampath of the Indian Consulate General of Jordan in a gas explosion akin to the one that killed Sajid Mir. Daniyal is chastised by RAW chief Roy for killing someone who wasn't intended to be murdered and is asked to cancel the mission. Daniyal is urged by Nawaz to continue the mission to assassinate the primary organizers of the entire operation in order to get revenge for the 2008 Mumbai Attacks. She offers to travel to Pakistan with him.
To capture Sahabuddin Umvi and Haaris Saeed, the remaining two offenders, Daniyal and Nawaz travel to Pakistan. There, they decide to assassinate Saeed by planting an explosive in the microphone he used during his public rally with the assistance of a local restaurant owner and RAW agent Khalid. However, after their plot falls through, Daniyal chases Saeed down in a car and shoots him dead, setting off an explosion in the process. Amina Bi, a nurse who lost her militant son in a suicide bombing, assists in the murder of Umvi by substituting poison for his prescribed medication. After the police apprehend Amina Bi at her home, she shoots herself.
Daniyal and Nawaz head to the coast in an attempt to flee over the Arabian Sea while being pursued by the Pakistani army and ISI. Their accomplices are either slain or captured and questioned for information. The Pakistani military learns of their escape aboard a boat and dispatches patrol boats to capture them. Daniyal is killed by a military bullet while sheltering in the water with Nawaz. After they go, the Indian Navy comes to Nawaz's aid.
She then travels to the Taj Hotel in Mumbai, where she encounters a tea vendor who is giving away tea for free since his son, a hotel waiter who was slain in terrorist assaults, has now been avenged because Daniyal killed the terrorists. She fulfills a promise she had made to Daniyal earlier by purchasing two cups of tea from him.
Phantom is a 2015 Bollywood spy thriller book based on Hussain Zaidi’s book Mumbai Avengers. The movie tells a fictionalized account of how a former army commander is sent on a ghost mission to murder the main attackers, picking up from the post-26/11 situation where the Indian Government's diplomatic stance was against retaliation for the savage attacks on Mumbai.
Saif Ali Khan somehow seemed quite spiritless and lacked the fervor and vigor the chase required. Both his facial expressions and the way he delivered the dialogue lacked appeal and conviction. Katrina Kaif was most likely chosen for the role just as a glamour factor due to her attractive demeanor. She appears attractive throughout the film, but that is about it.
The manner the main characters have been developed is not very noteworthy. While the justification for Daniyal's court-martial is overly cliché, Nawaz's emotional attachment to the mission is rather flimsy. Sadly, the movie lacks the suspense that viewers seek in mission-critical thrillers.
The suspense of the film can be thrilling but also predictable at some points. The way the director has shown the Syrian war and shot at different locations is quite commendable. Overall the direction of the film is fine.
The movie has an IMBD ratio of 5.9/10 and a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 23%.
Overall the film can be said to be a one-time watch but action thriller lovers might love it.

Saif Ali Khan Played the role of Captain Daniyal Khan a disgraced military officer. Daniyal Khan was court-martialed from the army for making poor judgments during a battle. Daniyal Khan lives a secret existence and has no intentions of acting again. In the movie, he leads a secret mission, so in addition to seeing Saif in an action-packed avatar, we also get to see his patriotic side.
Katrina Kaif plays the role of Nawaz Mistry in the film. Usually, we see Katrina in all sorts of glamour roles but this time we get a new avatar of her in which she is using guns and running missions. Katrina even took months of training and cardio practice to develop the much-needed stamina and stature required in this movie.
