Mission Majnu chronicles the life of Amandeep Aman Singh, a RAW field operative deployed in Pakistan under a pseudonym, who marries a blind girl named Nasreen. Post India's first nuclear test in 1974, in response, Pakistan hastens to develop its own nuclear arsenal.
In light of this, tasked by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and RAW Chief R.N. Kao, Aman embarks on Mission Majnu to locate the concealed nuclear facility in Pakistan. Despite the challenges brought about by the subsequent peaceful approach of the new Indian government, Aman managed to locate the nuclear facility.
Alert to an imminent erroneous attack by Israel on a different military facility, Aman gathers radiation evidence from Kahuta, leading to the averting of the attack. Still, this exposes him and his colleagues to the ISI, leading to their tragic end.
Aman, in a heroic act, ensures a pregnant Nasreen's escape to Dubai, sacrificing himself in the process. In Dubai, Nasreen discovers a letter from Aman revealing his real identity.
Mission Majnu was scheduled to be released on 13th May 2022 but was later cancelled and 10 June 2022 which was canceled too. After not being able to release the film into theatres, the movie was released on 20 January 2023 on Netflix.
Mission Majnu, directed by Shantanu Bagchi, is a compelling film that thrives on the edge of a gripping narrative, robust performances, and proficient direction. Set in the aftermath of the Indo-Pak 1971 war, the story is carefully carved around the building animosity between India and Pakistan. With powerful performances and a high-adrenaline storyline filled with spy-thriller elements, Mission Majnu delivers an enjoyable cinematic experience.
Sidharth Malhotra delivers a laudable performance as Amandeep Singh/Tariq, portraying an array of emotions from intense to comedic with varying levels of success. His character's wit, ingenuity, and patriotism, despite being constantly mistreated, adds a layer of complexity to the plot. Rashmika Mandanna's portrayal of Nasreen is satisfactory. Meanwhile, the supporting actors, especially Kumud Mishra and Sharib Hashmi, deliver impressive performances that sure to leave a lasting impression on the audience.
Under Bagchi's agile direction, the film maintains a fast pace throughout, which sustains the suspense and tension inherent in the genre. Yet, there are certain script elements that may seem too convenient, undermining the otherwise meticulously crafted narrative. The film is marked by how effortlessly it seems to uncover the clues, which can sometimes clinch the realism of the spy thriller it aims to be.
While the film boasts some impressive scenes, it’s essential not to overlook its technical aspects. The production design does a commendable job of recreating the milieu of 1970s Pakistan, adding a layer of authenticity to the storytelling. However, despite the deft editing, certain action sequences seem a bit stretched and formulaic.
Despite minor setbacks, Mission Majnu should appeal to those who enjoy spy thrillers mixed with high-octane action sequences. The film is grounded in reality, avoiding overt patriotism and staying true to its core premise. It might lose its grip at specific points in the narrative, but overall, it delivers an entertaining and engaging experience. It is a film which needs to be viewed and appreciated without delving too much into its plot intricacies and narrative conveniences.

A movie that is attempting to be realistic has a problem since Siddharth is a little bit too attractive to play the role of a spy in the movie. In contrast to the characters of Sharib Hashmi and Kumud Mishra, who both play espionage, he maintains a higher volume level than the circumstances need.
The apparent ease with which Tariq navigates the military zones does not hold water, and his love story is more concerned with showmanship than it is with genuine emotion. The romance subplots are uninteresting, and the comradery amongst the agents isn't elevated above the formulaic banter that they exchange.
Siddharth, on the other hand, gives an outstanding performance throughout the action sequences. Although the focus of Mission Majnu is on Amandeep's wit, inventiveness, and patriotism in spite of being mistreated, the film also features a significant amount of action, which Sidharth handles very capably.
Rashmika Mandanna is the actress who portrays the role of Nasreen Hussain, a blind girl from Pakistan. She had a sweet and naive nature, and she trusted others easily due to her good nature. She played the part of Sidharth Malhotra's wife, who was an Indian spy stationed in Pakistan. She became pregnant with his child, and although she knew the fact that he was an Indian spy, she chose to remain loyal to him by not marrying again in future.
