Adaptation of a True Story: Dashrath Manjhi's life is the basis for the movie. To learn the truth of Dashrath's life and his incredible accomplishment, the filmmakers performed in-depth research and spoke with a number of people who knew him. Ajitpal Singh, a filmmaker, accused Ketan Mehta of stealing his concept for a movie based on the story of Dashrath Manjhi, a.k.a. the "mountain man." According to rumours, Ajitpal planned to direct the movie and cast Nawazuddin Siddiqui, but Ketan produced it with Nawaz as the star instead.
