Plot

PlayThe village of Chunni is a peaceful, enjoyable place to live. She pretends to be her twin sister Munni to trick the locals, including her parents.

A witch named Makdee (Shabana Azmi), according to mythology, stays in a mansion in the village that is believed to be haunted. According to mythology, anyone who enters the mansion accidentally transforms into an animal. Nobody in the community is brave enough to enter the mansion.

One day, Chunni's pranks gets seriously out of hand. The neighbourhood butcher, Kallu (Makarand Deshpande), is a continuous source of conflict for Chunni, her sister, and her friend Mughal-e-azam. In a moment of wrath, Kallu once chases Munni, Chunni's obedient twin, to the mansion, thinking she is Chunni.

As a result, Munni walks into the mansion, where it is likely that the witch has transformed the young girl into a hen. When Chunni learns this, she starts to cry. The village refuses to believe her as she runs from pillar to post trying to find help, so Chunni finally enters the haunted mansion by herself to look for her sister.

When she encounters the witch in the mansion, she begs the witch to free her sister because it was not her fault. But the witch demands that they make a pact. Only if Chunni can pay her 100 chickens in exchange would she turn Munni back into a human.

The mansion is visited by Chunni's schoolmaster, but when a little dog is spotted leaving, people assume the witch changed him into a puppy. Mughal-e-Azam recognises the puppy as his pet dog, who had entered the mansion and had been missing ever since.

Chunni then learns that everything up to that point was a lie. Makdee is not a witch and she does not actually change people into animals. She is actually a scam artist who has been searching for a treasure that has been hidden in the town. To uncover the treasure, she kidnaps numerous kids. She is accompanied by the two police officers who are actively helping her.

But as soon as Chunni discovers the treasure, the witch captures everyone in an effort to escape the village. Kallu confronts her after breaking into her mansion to seek out the kids. Due to their reputation, the police officers are attacked by the youngsters and other people. They also joined Chunni in stopping the con artist.

Before Chunni arrives and traps the witch the same way she did with the rest of the individuals, the witch and Kallu get involved in a brief fight.

The witch gets caught in her own web and is attacked by the youngsters. The village now has a new hero in Chunni, who is recognised for freeing everyone who was previously held captive.

Release

Makdee was released on November 22, 2002. The film was also screened in the Critics' Week (Spotlight on India) section at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival.
