Kavya Pratap Singh (Alia Bhatt), a gorgeous, intelligent, and fashionable Punjabi girl from Ambala who is engaged to an NRI American doctor, chooses to travel to Delhi to get an expensive designer wedding gown after her father, Kamaljeet (Ashutosh Rana), declines to purchase the pricy outfit for her wedding. Rakesh (Humpty) Kumar Sharma (Varun Dhawan), a young and flirtatious Punjabi kid in Delhi whose father, Vinod Kumar Sharma, owns a stationery shop, is one of her maternal uncle's pupils whom she encounters while visiting at his home. Humpty tries to catch Kavya with the assistance of his friends Shonty and Poplu, but she seems uninterested. But he succeeds in making friends with her. Kavya tells Humpty that her friend Gurpreet Sodhi in Delhi was the victim of blackmail by her ex-boyfriend, who had covertly recorded a sex scene between the two.
In order to get revenge on Gurpreet, as well as to raise money for Kavya's wedding outfit, Humpty comes up with the scheme of victimizing Gurpreet's ex-boyfriend. They succeed in obtaining some cash, but Kavya is unhappy with how it was done. But as a result of these misadventures, Kavya begins to develop feelings for Humpty, and the night before she is scheduled to go for Ambala, they end up sharing a bed. She responds that she won't defy Kamaljeet's requests when Humpty asks her whether she loves him. Vinod, Poplu, and Shonty contribute their funds to help Humpty get the cash for Kavya's gown. After grudgingly accepting the cash, Kavya departs for Delhi. A five-day window is given for him to explain the situation. However, despite their best efforts, Humpty and his friends are unable to identify any problems in Angad.
After the deadline has passed and on the day of her wedding, Kavya leaves her house and asks Humpty to come with her on a train out of town. Humpty declines, and Kavya is persuaded to get off the train. When Kamaljeet and the rest of the family arrive at the railway station, Kavya and Humpty are cuddling. When Humpty explains that he may not be as wealthy, successful, or attractive as Angad, but he still loves Kavya with all of his heart, Kamaljeet, who had the mistaken idea that the couple was eloping, becomes furious and attacks him. That incident caused him to depart Ambala and return to Delhi. Kamaljeet asks Kavya whether she still wants that pricey wedding outfit after she has been transformed into a bride. She responds that she is suited for inexpensive local clothes but not for pricey, fancy attire. Kamaljeet brings everyone to Delhi where he approaches Humpty and provides his approval for the marriage of his daughter as he realizes that her relationship would be more fulfilling with Humpty rather than Angad.
There is a Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) hangover in Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania. Just as in DDLJ, a typical Indian father doesn’t let her daughter marry her lover but rather forces her into an arranged marriage.
Overall the film is quite engaging. With its peppy music that would make one groove and an interesting storyline, the film can hold you for a while. The film's charming lead couple is one of its best qualities. Humpty Sharma is brilliantly portrayed by Varun Dhawan, who strikes the ideal blend between charisma and sensitivity. Alia Bhatt on the other hand amazingly plays the role of a chirpy yet independent girl. Both Varun and Alia share a very adorable chemistry on the screen.
Another appealing aspect is the soundtrack to Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania. Foot-tapping songs and sultry melodies are expertly woven together in Sachin-Jigar's soundtrack. The audience was deeply affected by songs like Samjhawan and Saturday Saturday, which helped the movie become more appealing overall.
The dialogue was a mixture of funny and emotional. The script expertly combines drama, romance, and humor to keep the audience engaged throughout.
In the end, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania is a fun and endearing Bollywood movie that successfully balances comedy and romance. The film successfully makes the audience smile because of its likable cast, pleasant music, and creative plot.

Varun Dhawan took part in training sessions for his role.
The movie was a modern-day homage to DDLJ.
Because he had just finished shooting Badlapur, Varun Dhawan was drunk during the dramatic scene.
Sangharsh (1999), in which Bhatt had a small role, featured Alia Bhatt and Ashutosh Rana.
This was Sidharth Shukla’s only Bollywood film.
