Plot

The movie revolves around the character of Naina Mathur, who suffers from Tourette syndrome, a neurological disorder that causes involuntary vocal and physical tics. Despite her condition, Naina aspires to be a teacher and pursues a job in a prestigious school. However, she faces numerous rejections due to her condition.

After multiple job rejections, Naina is offered a job as a teacher in a school and is assigned to students from underprivileged backgrounds. Initially, Naina faces resistance from the students, who are unruly and undisciplined. However, she manages to win their trust and respect through her innovative teaching methods.

As Naina's teaching skills improve, her Tourette syndrome becomes more manageable. However, her condition remains a constant source of ridicule and discrimination from her colleagues and the parents of her students. Nevertheless, Naina continues to persevere and is determined to prove her worth.

The Hollywood movie Front Of The Class and Rani Mukerji's film Hichkit were discovered to be identical. According to a series of tweets by Australian novelist Nishant Kaushik, the movie is based on a story he gave to Siddharth P. Malhotra in 2015.

Author Kaushik, whose works include A Romance With Chaos and My Father Is A Hero, claimed that he developed on the plot after receiving a one-line brief from the producers. Malhotra then denied his claims with the statement, "The story he [Kaushik] came up with was not what we were looking for. So, we did not proceed with him.”

Girish Johar noted that the word-of-mouth of the audience had a significant role in the movie's popularity both domestically and abroad. He did, however, note that the audience might be restricted by the book's discussion of Tourette syndrome. The movie, which was screened in more than 900 theatres, had a below-average debut in India, earning ₹33 Million (US$410,000). Yet, it was deemed a commercial success after collecting 200 Million (US$2.5 Million) in just five days.

In India, Hichki made ₹591.3 Million ($7.4 Million) throughout its theatrical run. The movie made 2.15 Billion yen ($27 Million) worldwide, the majority of which came from Chinese markets, where it brought in 120 Million. According to Firstpost, Hichki was the sixth movie to earn more than 1 Billion (US$13 Million) in China and the highest-grossing female-led movie of the year in India.
