In this unique ZEE5 Original film, a transgender individual, Haddi, relocates to Delhi, where she becomes part of a group of fellow transgenders and crossdressers, all guided by a powerful figure. However, one is left pondering whether this transition is driven by aspiration or an underlying motive of revenge.
The trailer released earlier seems exhilarating. Filled with fascinating glimpses, gripping scenes and appealing dialogues, starts with a strongly delivered dialogue by Nawaz quoting that a transgender’s blessings are considered to be very powerful and being cursed by them is unfortunate but a revenge seeked by them is even more disastrous.
Haddi is set to premiere on Zee5 on September 7th.
'Haddi' is a raw and complex tale setting Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the leas as Haddi, a grim transgender character engaged in the act of robbing dead bodies along with immoral activities with a dangerous mafia league, led by Pramod Ahlawat (Anurag Kashyap). Directed and co-written by Akshat Ajay Sharma, ‘Haddi’ enthusiastically explores a disturbing narrative that unfortunately fails to resonate due to bad storytelling and lack of reality .
Despite the immense acting potential of Siddiqui and his co-star Mohd. Zeeshan Ayyub, who portrays Haddi's boyfriend Jogi, their interactions fall flat, demonstrating insufficient intensity. Siddiqui manages to express fear, hatred, and empathy into his character, but at times, his makeup hides his actions, causing inconsistency. Kashyap, while managing to bring an impactful essence to the character, simply repeats a familiar antagonist.
The character Amma, portrayed by Ila Arun, is one of the perfect casting. Notably, the film's soundtrack adds a successful touch, with 'Beparda' (composed by Rohan Gokhale) standing out amongst the rest.
The overall cinematography and graphics set a consistent dark tone that complements the movie's plot. However, the confusing narrative with a longer than usual way, and the lack of clarity in character motivations, set back the audience's attention and disengage interest further. The director attempts to intrigue in the second half, thus managing to build of suspense, but falls short due to unconvincing characterisation and an uneven narrative.
'Haddi' had the potential to show a vivid picture of LGBTQ struggles through a thrilling and emotionally charged drama. Regrettably, the film left out on so many topics, as it didn’t dig deep enough or offer a clearer, focused exploration of its complex characters.
In conclusion, 'Haddi' attempts to explore through dark, complex themes with compelling and notable performances. However, it falls short due to mishandled storytelling, characterisation, and ineffective exploration of LGBTQ+.

In "Haddi", Nawazuddin Siddiqui portrays the character of a challenging and complex role of a sinister transgender individual involved in an immoral act of robbing corpses and engaging in wicked activities under Pramod Ahlawat's mafia league. While Nawazuddin's performance is commendable, his portrayal of Haddi lacks depth at times due to inconsistent character development. However, through his performance, he succeeds in blending elements of fear, hatred, and empathy into his character, despite an overemphasis on his dramatic makeover.
Anurag Kashyap's portrayal of Pramod Ahlawat, the malicious mafia boss and a political leader, starts the film with a menacing energy. He exhibits ruthlessness and the lengths to which his character would go to fulfill his desires. Nonetheless, his character doesn’t reinvent the conventional antagonist but essentially repeats the familiar villainous roles he has been known for in his previous performances.
As Haddi's love interest, Irfan, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub brings an intriguing dynamic to the plot. Although he's well-known for his acting, his chemistry with Nawazuddin's Haddi fails to create the desired intensity. The character of Irfan feels underdeveloped, and his relationship with Haddi is inadequately explored, leaving the audience wanting more depth and connection.
Ila Arun's portrayal of Revathy Amma is a delightful exception in "Haddi." Her character is well-cast and brings a nurturing and endearing quality to the otherwise dark narrative. Her presence provides a level of balance in the story, though her impact on the overall plotline and influence on other characters could be further evaluated and heightened.
