Introduction 

In 2022, Mohan Raja will helm the political action thriller Godfather in the Indian Telugu language. It is a remake of the Lucifer movie from Malayalam in 2019. Salman Khan, Nayanthara, Satya Dev, Chiranjeevi, and others star in the movie. R. B. Choudary and N. V. Prasad are in charge of producing it under the Konidela Production Company and Super Good Films labels. 

In the movie, the party's supreme leader passes away, creating a large power vacuum that affects both the state's and the party's electoral and leadership systems. The tiny line separating right and wrong becomes irreparably muddled in the inevitable succession dispute. The plot centers on his successor.

Principal photography began in August 2021, with locations including Hyderabad, Ooty, and Mumbai. Nirav Shah handled the cinematography, and Thaman S wrote the soundtrack. The Godfather received favorable reviews from critics upon its theatrical debut on October 5, 2022.

Plot 

PlayAn officer is turning over his file regarding the mysterious godfather Abraham Qureshi to a subordinate investigator at Interpol's station in France, saying it is the only unsolved case he has. Meanwhile, the leader of the ruling Jan Jagruti Party (JJP), Chief Minister Padmakant Reddy, also known as "PKR," passes away while receiving medical attention in a hospital. Acting CM Narayana Varma sends party members to riot outside the hospital in an effort to capitalise on the crisis and think it will help the impending election. In a live video on YouTube, truth-seeker Govardhan criticises individuals who applaud PKR, stating that during his latter years, he was a puppet for a financial syndicate that runs the entire Indian political system and claims that PKR was a puppet.

He asserts that the JJP party has twice as much money as the entire state treasury and that the choice of PKR's replacement is important. During the live stream, he names four potential candidates: Sathyapriya, Jaidev Das, Varma, and Brahma Teja.

The wife of infamous and covert drug dealer Jaidev, who primarily engages in real estate and Hawala frauds, Sathya is the daughter of PKR. Sathya is unaware of his interactions with Mumbai's drug lords. Varma claims that because of his seniority inside the party and in particular because of his lobbying abilities, he is the most likely candidate to succeed PKR. Brahma, on the other hand, is PKR's first child, but he kept the fact that he shared a son with his first wife a secret from the public.

Govardhan refers to him as Godfather and calls him the "most dangerous" person on the list. Although Brahma's past is unknown, Govardhan's research has made him aware of his contract employment for businesses in Chennai. Jaidev and Varma meet Abdul, the former's partner, in Mumbai and inform him that PKR gave him a deadline to quit his immoral behaviour a month prior. Jaidev intends to use drug proceeds to fund the JJP after PKR is destroyed by paying the current funder.

With Abdul's assistance, Jaidev strikes a contract with Lukas in which, once the JJP wins the election, Lukas offers to send 750 crores (US$94 million) each month in exchange for bringing uncontrolled drug contraband into Hyderabad. Jaidev must establish a covert drug factory before the deal can move forward. Abdul is certain that the factory should be situated next to a sealed road. In Hyderabad, where Sathya urges Varma to prevent Brahma from attending the ceremony, the final rituals for PKR are being performed. Indrajeet makes an unsuccessful attempt to obstruct him on Varma's orders.

As a result, they will be able to declare themselves the party's next candidate for CM and capitalise on the current compassion wave. Brahma is the party's current financier, so Varma encourages Jaidev to speak with him. However, Brahma disagrees to Jaidev using drug money to finance the party and threatens him. Enraged, Jaidev orders Varma to pay off 140 party MLAs to put him up as the CM candidate.

In order to build up the drug plant, Jaidev dispatches guys. When Brahma learns of this, he travels to the factory and kills everyone there. Koti, Brahma's assistant and Jaidev's snitch, sees this and tells them about it. Indrajeet is sent to the plant to look for evidence, but he comes up empty-handed. Jaidev learns from Sathya's diary that she dislikes Brahma since her father showed him more tender loving care because he was brought into their home as a baby, which caused a gap between her parents. Koti convinces Renuka, his sweetheart, to defame Brahma.

She accuses Brahma of abusing her in public. As a result, Brahma is detained and the public becomes outraged, leading to his incarceration. Masoom Bhai, his most dependable assistant, and his next contractor both call Brahma while he is imprisoned. Jaidev sends men into the prison to try a hit on Brahma, but the plan is unsuccessful.

Masoom Bhai sabotages Lukas' containers as he transfers the money to bribe the other JJP party members. Brahma visits Govardhan in Chennai, where he gives him bits of information about the corruption of the party members as well as the motivations behind his involvement in the drug trade. On national television, Koti and Renuka confess to lying about Brahma after realising their error. Later, Brahma is freed from jail. After a heroin overdose, Jhanvi is being treated in a hospital.

Sathya finds out about Jaidev's predatory conduct from Jhanvi. Sathya confronts Jaidev, who immediately comes clean and threatens to reveal Jhanvi's connections to heroin dealers. Like PKR, he also makes threats to murder her and Jhanvi. Sathya, who has altered, is left with no choice except to ask Brahma for assistance. Brahma promises to look out for them after telling Sathya where he came from. When Sathya learns her brother's true identity, she sobs.

Indrajeet threatens Sathya in return for her refusal to press charges against Jhanvi. After killing Indrajeet with the help of his men, Brahma meets with the NNTV news channel's proprietors. Sathya receives complete authority over the channel from Brahma, who also pays off the channel's debts. Brahma and Masoom Bhai also use blackmail to persuade Varma and the other MLAs to support them in exchange for keeping their drug use out of the public eye. Jaidev kidnaps Jhanvi and uses extortion to get Mumbai-based Sathya to name him as the new chief minister.

Masoom Bhai assists Brahma in killing Jaidev's followers. When they confront Jaidev, Lukas reveals that Brahma is Abram Qureshi, also known as the "Godfather," after Jaidev recognises Brahma. Brahma's men save Sathya despite Jaidev's attempt to kill her in a car accident to his surprise. Jaidev shoots himself after losing. Sathya is chosen as the JJP party's new president and chief minister, and Brahma and Masoom Bhai depart for Paris. Brahma and Masoom Bhai slay every major drug boss after gathering them all.

Release Date

Along with a Hindi dub, Godfather was released in theatres on October 5, 2022, in Telugu. On October 14, 2022, the Tamil dubbed version was released. Netflix purchased the rights to watch the movie online as of November 19, 2022. The film was distributed in India by Konidela Production Company and PVR Pictures, while it was distributed internationally by Sarigama Cinemas via Phars Film.

Reviews

The Godfather debuted to favourable reviews, with the majority of reviewers complimenting Chiranjeevi's performance. According to Paul Nicodemus of The Times of India, who awarded the movie a rating of 3.5 out of 5, Chiranjeevi's captivating performance makes the movie a good remake of the Malayalam original. "Watch it definitely for the Megastar, who delivers enough bang for your buck," commented Murali Krishna CH of The New Indian Express in his review of the movie with a rating of 3.5 out of 5 stars. 

Pinkvilla resident Arvind V gave the movie three out of five stars and commented "Chiranjeevi, after a dull performance in Acharya, is terrific here. Satyadev delivers an award-winning output." Manoj Kumar R of The Indian Express agreed and praised Mohan Raja's work, saying that he "has steered clear of mystery and has turned GodFather into a full-fledged political drama".

Character Analysis

Brahma/ Abram Qureshi- Brahma is PKR's first child, however he was kept hidden from the public since PKR did not want the public to know that he had a son with his first wife. Govardhan refers to him as Godfather and calls him the "most dangerous" person on the list.

Masoom Bhai- Masoom bhai is the most trusted friend of Brahma. Masoom bhai played by Salman Khan is one of the film's highlights. This character is very bold and is a true friend to Brahma.

Satya- Sathya is PKR's daughter, and she is married to Jaidev, a well-known and discreet drug dealer who primarily trades in real estate and Hawala scams.
