The protagonist of "English Vinglish" is middle-aged Indian housewife Shashi Godbole, who experiences frequent humiliation and abuse from her relatives due to her inability to speak English well. Shashi's self-esteem suffers as a result of the language barrier, despite the fact that she is a devoted and caring wife and mother.Shashi makes the decision to covertly sign up for an English language course when she visits New York to attend her niece's wedding. She progressively develops self-assurance as she attends the lessons and begins to establish her own voice.
