Following Paro's departure, Dev turns to drugs and alcohol for solace. He becomes a reckless and self-destructive individual, spiralling into a world of addiction and despair. During this time, he encounters Chanda, a young and confident prostitute who has her own share of pain and struggles. Abhay Deol came up with the initial concept for the movie, and he brought it to the attention of Anurag Kashyap. Anurag Kashyap, along with Vikramaditya Motwane, worked on the screenplay, and they based it on "news headlines about Generation X" in order to give it a youthful air.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Nitin Chainpuri are the two men singing Emotional Atyachaar during Paro's wedding.
The MMS video of Chanda as a young Delhi schoolgirl was based on a genuine MMS film of a young Delhi school girl that generated a significant issue in India in 2004. The father of the real girl committed suicide, just like Chanda's father did in the film.
