Introduction 

Dagadi Chawl is a 2015 Marathi-language action, drama, and horror movie directed by Chandrakant Kanse, who was making his directorial debut. Mangal Murti Films and Sai Pooja Films & Entertainments put on the show. The lead parts in Daagdi Chaawl are played by Ankush Chaudhari, Makarand Deshpande, and Pooja Sawant. It is the third movie that Ankush Chaudhari has put out in 2015. Classmates and Double Seat were both big hits. On September 4, 2015, an official preview for the movie came out with Tu Hi Re. On September 5, 2015, it was posted on YouTube, and people liked it a lot. 

On September 21, 2015, the film's official image and trailer were released. The style of Ankush Chaudhari, his chemistry with Pooja Sawant, and the look of Makarand Deshpande as daddy, which had been kept a secret for a long time, were praised. The movie came out on October 2, 2015.

Ankush's movie was an instant hit. After the movie came out, fans of Ankush Chaudhari poured milk on a big picture of him outside a Bharat Mata cinema hall in Mumbai to show how much they liked him. This was the first time anything like this had ever happened in the history of Marathi Cinema. It has been turned into Hindi as Daagdi Chaawl Ek Bagawat, and on June 12, 2016, both Star Pravah and STAR Gold will show the Marathi and Hindi world premieres. The movie will be the first Marathi movie to air on STAR Gold UK. It will do so on Saturday, July 16 at 10:00 p.m.

The movie is inspired from Mumbai's actual Dagdi Chawl which was infamous for criminal activity during 80's and 90's and was also the official residence of a gangster turned political leader Arun Gawli popularly known as 'Daddy'.

The story begins in 1996, when Mumbai was tormented by ongoing gang conflicts between numerous criminals throughout the city.

The film will be released in theatres across Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, and certain cities in Karnataka on October 2, 2015.

Review

Positive feedback has been received for the film. ABP Majha rated the film four out of five stars and described it as a fast-paced crime action flick. The Pune Mirror gave the film three out of five stars and said, Well made, the film keeps you involved. The Maharashtra Times rated the film three out of five stars and described it as a total entertainer. The Times of India gave it three out of five stars.

The second song, 'Dhaga Dhaga,' became popular among music fans after topping the music charts.

Daagdi Chaawl earned 5.75 crores (US$720,000) net in the first week and 3 crores (US$380,000) net in the second week. In two weeks, the film has earned a total of 8.75 crore (US$1.1 million). The film's consistent run at the box office helped it gross around 20 crores (US$2.5 million).

Sequel 

Dagdi Chawl 2 was revealed with a teaser in June 2022, with a release date of August 19, 2022.
