Sunil Grover is a Mumbai-based Indian performer and comedian who has appeared in Hindi and Punjabi films and television shows. He rose to prominence for his portrayal of Gutthi on the television program Comedy Nights with Kapil. 

Still he is best known for his roles as Dr. Mashhoor Gulati and Rinku Devi on The Kapil Sharma Show. In addition he appeared in the Bollywood features Gabbar Is Back The Legend of Bhagat Singh and Bharat.

Age

Sunil Grover was born on 3 August 1977 in  Mandi Dabwali town of Sirsa district Haryana. He is currently 46 years old as of 2023. His zodiac sign is Leo.

Education

There is very little information available about Sunil’s education but he received a Master's Degree in Theatre from Panjab University Chandigarh. 

Family

Sunil Grover comes from a Punjabi family. His father is J.N. Grover but the name of his mother is not known yet. He also has a younger brother Anil Grover. Sunil is also happily married to his wife Aarti and the couple also has a son together named Mohan Grover.

Struggle

Sunil Grover is a well-known actor today but things were not always so rosy for him. Sunil recently discussed his struggle to make it big in the film business and how things turned out for him after days of failure on social media. The actor revealed that he used to be paid Rs 500 per month for his job. However his determination to find better employment and his hard work kept him going. He admitted that things changed after his comedy character Gutthi became a TV hit. Sunil expressed surprise that the crowd was cheering for him when he was introduced as the actor who plays Gutthi in Comedy Nights With Kapil.

Sunil reflected on his early struggles saying After I finished my master's in theatre I came to Mumbai to act. But for the first year I did nothing but party. I resided in a posh neighbourhood using my savings and some money from my parents. I'd only make about Rs 500 per month. But I expected to be successful shortly. He stated that he always knew he could perform because the main guest at his school function once told him that he should not have participated in a drama competition because it was unfair to others.

Career

Grover was found by the late satirist and comedian Jaspal Bhatti during his college days. He also appeared in the first 26 episodes of India's first silent comedy program SAB TV's Gutur Gu. During the 2000s he made his broadcast debut on Filmy with Chala Lallan Hero Banne.

He became well known for his comical characters such as Gutthi Rinku Bhabi and Dr. Mashoor Gulati after appearing on the comedy program Comedy Nights with Kapil. In the performance he also impersonates renowned Bollywood actors such as Amitabh Bachhan and many others which was well received by the audience. Sunil quit the show after a fight with his co-star Kapil Sharma. Grover returned to television shortly after leaving Kapil's program with Star Plus's Kanpur Wale Khuranas hosted by Aparshakti Khurana. The plot of the show was identical to The Kapil Sharma Show but it didn't last long and was quickly cancelled.

Grover made his Punjab film debut in 2016 with Vaisakhi List and the following year he played Shraddha Kapoor's parent in Baaghi.He returned to television in August 2020 with the show Gangs of Filmistan on Star Bharat where he portrayed Bhindi Bhai. The exhibition will conclude in October 2020. Grover played Gurpal Chauhan in the political thriller web series Tandav directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and starring Saif Ali Khan.

The Kapil Sharma program also known as TKSS is a Sony Entertainment Television Hindi-language stand-up comedy and talk program. The first season of the program hosted by Kapil Sharma premiered on April 23 2016. 

The plot centered around Kapil Sharma and his Shantivan Non Co-operative Housing Society neighbours. Sunil Grover played the role of Dr. Mashoor Gulati Rinku Bhabhi and other characters on The Kapil Sharma Show.

Gutur Gu

Gutur Gu is a silent comedy produced by B. P. Singh and directed by Prabal Barua that airs on the Indian satellite television station SAB TV. It was also the first silent comedy sitcom in India. Sheetal Maulik and Sunil Grover star alongside Nayan Bhatt Bhavana Balsavar Jaydutt Vyas and KK Goswami in the film. 

The cast members of the show do not talk on-screen. In Gutur Gu Sunil Grover played the character of Ballu a simple and innocent man with a unique way of dealing with everyday situations. United Kacche

Sunil Grover Manu Rishi Sapna Pabbi Satish Shah Nayani Dixitt Neelu Kohli and Diksha Juneja appear in the Hindi-language Slice of Life comedy series United Kacche. Manav Shah and Dharampal Thakur helm the film which is produced by Yoodlee Films. The show was set to debut on ZEE5 on March 31 2023. 

The program follows the lives of Indians Pakistanis and Bangladeshis who are illegal immigrants in England and are referred to as Kachche. Sunil Grover is the leading actor in the show and performs the role of Tango Tejnder Gill. The plot revolves around the storyline that  Tejnder Gill fulfills his father's longtime dream of emigrating to Europe albeit illegally. 

The show follows Tejinder's existence in the UK as a Kaccha including his relationships with his roommates family love life and struggles to find work while avoiding authorities.

India's Laughter Champion

Banijay Asia produces India's Laughter Champion an Indian reality stand-up comedy series. Since June 11 2022 the program has been broadcast on Sony Entertainment Television. Rochelle Rao hosts the program and the judges are Shekhar Suman and Archana Puran Singh. It took the position of The Kapil Sharma Show. It concluded on August 27 2022. Rajat Sood was the winner. 

Sunil Grover's performances on the show were widely appreciated and he quickly gained a following for his unique brand of comedy. He had a talent for mimicry and his impressions of famous Bollywood actors and personalities were a hit with the audience.

There are a few controversies revolving around Sunil Grover and Kapil Sharma. Sunil Grover left Comedy Nights with Kapil solely because he requested a salary increase from Kapil which Kapil rejected.Kapil Sharma who was allegedly drunk at the time was accused of being abusive to Sunil Grover on a flight from Melbourne Australia in March 2017. A few days later Kapil acknowledged on Facebook that he and Sunil had an argument and he questioned the motives of eyewitnesses who claimed he had assaulted Sunil.
