His impressive performance earned him a spot on the Mumbai Under-19 team, and he later represented India in two Under-19 World Cups in 2014 and 2016, showcasing his batting prowess. In 2016, he was the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament, accumulating 355 runs in six innings, which led to his signing with Royal Challengers Bangalore for the 2015 IPL season.

Sarfaraz started his Ranji Trophy career with Mumbai in 2014 and later played for Uttar Pradesh during the 2015-2016 season.
