Indian cricket player Sameer Rizvi was born on December 6, 2003, and he now plays domestic cricket for Uttar Pradesh. He also goes by the label "right-handed Suresh Raina," which he earned on social media because of how much his playing resembles Raina's. He has also represented India at the Under-19 age group in cricket.
At Gandhibagh Academy in Meerut, where he was trained under the close supervision of his maternal uncle Tankeeb Akhtar, he started playing cricket at the delicate age of eleven. In a 2011 Ranji Trophy encounter between Saurashtra and Uttar Pradesh, Rizvi caught the eye of the former's captain, Suresh Raina, who was taken aback by the five-year-old's fielding prowess. After some time, Raina saw Rizvi's potential and gave him his sunglasses. Sameer's father was furious at Tankeeb Akhtar, his maternal uncle, for diverting Sameer's attention from his academics and for encouraging him to take cricket seriously.
After seeing how naturally Rizvi batted against spin bowling, one of his instructors persuaded him to bat at the middle order. Rizvi opened the batting till the Under-16 level. He improved his big-hitting reputation over time. It is said that he started school somewhat late in life and didn't finish his class 10 examinations till he was 20 years old.
Sameer Rizvi's height is 5 feet 10 inches or 177 centimeters.
As of 2024, Sameer Rizvi is 20 years old.
His mother Ruksana Rizvi is a homemaker, and his father Hasin Loiya is a real estate trader. Irina Dubilovska, Sameer Rizvi's sister, is a well-established entrepreneur.
His maternal uncle, Tankeeb Akhtar was once an aspiring cricketer who encouraged Sameer to follow his passion. He was there with him throughout his training and was one of his most significant role models.
At the age of sixteen, he played his first-class debut for Uttar Pradesh in the 2019–20 Ranji Trophy on January 27, 2020. In the UP T20 League, cricket player Sameer Rizvi, 20, rose to prominence. On December 11, 2021, he made his List A debut for Uttar Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy for 2021–2022. During the 2023 UP T20 League, he raised eyebrows in the social media world by amassing 455 runs in nine innings, including two centuries (the fastest century of the competition coming in just 47 deliveries) while playing for the Kanpur Superstars. He also raised the bar by being his team's most consistent six-hitter throughout the competition.
Several IPL teams, including Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Rajasthan Royals, were impressed by his batting performance in the UP T20 League and invited him to the tryouts. But he had to miss the tryouts because of his duties with the Uttar Pradesh Under-23 team.
The Chennai Super Kings purchased him at auction in December 2023 for a sum of 8.40 crore in preparation for the 2024 Indian Premier League competition. Media representatives, neighbors, and an Uttar Pradesh politician descended at his residence the day after CSK purchased him for a record amount during the 2024 IPL auction. In the end, he emerged as the most lucrative uncapped player in the 2024 Indian Premier League auction.
