Ravi Kumar Dahiya’s Career

Early in his teens Ravi Kumar Dahiya began wrestling. In the 55 kg freestyle division at the 2015 Junior World Wrestling Championships in Salvador de Bahia he took home the silver medal. He sustained an injury in 2017 which forced him to miss more than a year of action. He was chosen to perform during the competition's semifinals. Due to his injury Ravi had no sponsors thus he ultimately had to rely on his well-wishers to help him recover. However he quickly recovered and made an impressive recovery. He earned India's lone medal in the 2018 World U23 Wrestling Championship in Bucharest the silver medal in the 57 kg division during his comeback year. At Tokyo Ravi Kumar Dahiya began with dominating wins over Colombia’s Oscar Tigreros and Bulgarian Georgi Vangelov to make the men’s 57kg semi-finals. Ravi Kumar Dahiya won the gold medal in the 2022 Yasar Dogu Tournament by defeating Uzbek Gulomjon Abdullaev 11-10 in the championship match. In the Men's Freestyle 57kg Wrestling event at the Commonwealth Games 2022 Ravi Kumar Dahiya won gold for his nation making history. In the final Ravi defeated Nigerian Ebikewenimo Welson 10-0 to earn his first gold medal at the Commonwealth Games. Two minutes and sixteen seconds were used in the game. During the Tokyo Olympics semifinal Ravi Kumar Dahiya's opponent Nurislam Sanayev bit him painfully on the biceps. The photos showed the deep bite mark on Ravi Dahiya's right bicep after he staged one of the greatest comebacks ever on the mat. The fourth seed Indian was behind 2-9 after Sanayev applied a couple fitleys (leg lace) but as time ran out Dahiya collected himself and used a double leg attack to take control of his opponent and win by fall. Despite being severely behind Dahiya remained calm showed incredible mental toughness and dramatically changed the outcome of the fight in his favour.

Ravi Kumar Dahiya led 2-1 after the first session but Sanayev came prepared and attacked the Indian's left leg. After taking a strong hold of it he turned him three times to score six points in a flash. Suddenly Dahiya was trailing and facing defeat but his greater endurance and technical skill were still in play. He had just enough time left—one minute—to change the course of events and he did so elegantly.

Sanayev was taken down by a double leg assault from Ravi Kumar Dahiya who then had a firm grasp of him while he was on the mat and used a powerful pin to end the match. Dahiya was unbeatable even in his previous matches; the 23-year-old won both of them on the basis of technical dominance to get to the final.
