The Pro Kabaddi League kabaddi team Patna Pirates (PTP) is based in Patna Bihar. Neeraj Kumar is the team's captain and Ravi Shetty is its coach. The Patliputra Sports Complex serves as their home field. The Pirates are the most successful team in PKL history having won 3 out of 8 championships and doing so consecutively. Additionally they were a season eight runner-up in PKL which debuted after Corona Pandemic.

After making it to the semifinals in each of the previous two seasons The Pirates won their first championship by upsetting the reigning champions U Mumba in 2016. The Patna Pirates defeated the Jaipur Pink Panthers in the final of the 2016 (June) season to become the first team in PKL history to successfully defend their title. In the final of the 2017 competition they defeated Gujarat Fortune Giants to record a hat-trick of championships. 

The three-time reigning champion Patna Pirates had an unexpectedly unsuccessful 2018–19 campaign as they were eliminated in the group stages and failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time ever. The first Pro Kabaddi team to play 100 games is Patna.

The mediocre opening show contributed to U Mumba's defeat despite their remarkable comeback which was the best the event had ever seen. When the Patna Pirates defeated the Jaipur Pink Panthers in the season four championship game they successfully defended their Pro Kabaddi title. For the second time in the short history of the PKL the Patna Pirates won with a score of 37-29 making them the first team to do it.
