Paoli Dam is an Indian actress who started her career in the Bengali tv series Jibon Niye Khela (2003). Dam grew up in Kolkata and attended Rajabazar Science College where she earned a postgraduate degree in chemistry. She initially aspired to be a chemical researcher or a pilot. Her first Bengali film Teen Yaari Katha directed by Sudeshna Roy and Abhijit Guha began production in 2004 but did not premiere until 2012. Dam's debut film directed by Ravi Kinagi was Agnipariksha. Between 2006 and 2009 she acted in five Bengali films rising to popularity with Goutam Ghose's 2009 Kaalbela. In 2011 she became well-known worldwide for her acting in the Bengali movie Chatrak. This film was screened at the Cannes Film Festival as well as in Toronto and the UK. She started acting in Bollywood with Hate Story in 2012 and she was also part of Ankur Arora Murder Case directed by Vikram Bhatt. In 2016 at the Hyderabad Bengali Film Festival she won the Viewers' Choice Award for Best Actress for her performance in Natoker Moto.Her most prominent work was in Bulbbul(2020) and Hate Story(2012).

Career

In Bengali television serials Dam made her acting debut. She made an appearance in Jibon Niye Khela for Zee Bangla in 2003 and then in Jishu Dasgupta's Tithir Atithi for ETV Bangla which aired for six years. The actress also starred in Sonar Harin Jaya and Tarpor Chand Uthlo. According to Dam Bengali television taught her a lot and prepared her for a career in film. Dam gained attention in 2009 after appearing in seven Bengali movies and Kaalbela's commercial success (directed by Goutam Ghose). Paoli Dam made her Bollywood debut in 2012 with the Vivek Agnihotri- and Vikram Bhatt-produced flick Hate Story. The movie centers on the sex prostitute played by Dam, Kavyah Krishna, and her companion Vicky planning a fraud on a well-known Indian businessman. Dam's performance received mixed reviews; It is noted that while Paoli did not disappoint and showed respectable acting talents, she failed to effectively convey the dire circumstances of her character. Her performance in the part was nevertheless thought to have been adequate.

After the movie's commercial success, a sequel was planned, with Surveen Chawla taking the position of Dam. Following Hate Story, Dam featured in Vikram Bhatt's Ankur Arora Murder Case, a movie made by Sohail Tatari that was based on the genuine account of a little kid who passed away as a result of malpractice. Teen Yaari Katha, Paoli Dam's first Bengali film, was released in 2012 and marked the beginning of her acting career. She appeared in supporting parts in a number of Bengali movies, including Agnipariksha (2006), Tulkalam (2007), I Love You (2008), and Hochheta Ki. Dam gained notoriety for her widely lauded performance as Madhabilata in Kaalbela (2009).
