"It was 2004" she says of her struggles after arriving in the city of dreams. "There were several breakdowns. I had saved some money from odd jobs I had done in Delhi. So it got me through the first six and a half months. What happened was that I took some photographs but you don't know where to go or what to do with them."

"Where do you even begin? Nothing is available on the internet and was not easily accessible. So I used to download the names of production companies and advertising agencies. I thought that inko jaake photographs de dete hai ki kya hota hai. I sent my photos to hundreds of agencies and banners; I would go physically."

"I marked out areas where people could travel by train, bus or car. At the time I couldn't afford cabs. Everything was so pricey. Calls from mobile phones were extremely expensive. So I used to go to a PCO call my mother and cry for hours about how things were. It was quite intimidating and frightening."

But Nimrat had no idea that things would soon change in her favour and she would become the face of several advertising campaigns. She remembers. "My first job was in an ad film for Asian Paints which I got after passing 85 screen tests."
