Everything began when Mahira shared an Instagram story on February 20 at around 11:30 p.m. of what appeared to be a Dadasaheb Phalke Award certificate for the Bigg Boss 13 contestant with the best fashion sense. Netizens began challenging the validity of the certificate as soon as she shared the article and many of them reposted it with several accusations.

Mahira Sharma released a statement in which she finally addressed the accusations and attempted to clear the air. She said that she would like to inform the media that the charges made against her for receiving and forging the prestigious DadaSaheb Phalke International Film Festival 2020 are untrue and totally uncalled for. In her formal statement she stated I did not counterfeit any award and I would never aim to do the same.
