In the movie, he portrayed a young student who develops an online romance with Bendre's character. Following the moderate success of "Kadhalar Dhinam," Kunal went on to feature in Tamil films such as "Paarvai Ondre Pothume" (2001) and "Punnagai Desam" (2002), which achieved relative success.

However, he faced a string of disappointments with subsequent films like "Pesadha Kannum Pesume," "Enge Enadhu Kavithai," and "Unarchigal," which failed to make an impact at the box office. Additionally, several of his later projects, including "Nilavinilae" opposite Vijayalakshmi, "Kimu Kipi" opposite Susan, and "Kadhalithal Anandam" alongside Livingston and Kausalya, were started but eventually shelved. Furthermore, two films he had signed opposite Sherin Shringar, namely "Kadhal Thiruda" directed by Jai Adithya and "Thodu" directed by Nanda, were completed but remained unreleased.

Death

Kunal was discovered hanging from the ceiling of his Mumbai apartment by actress Lavina Bhatia on February 7, 2008. The incident was initially thought to be a suicide attempt, but Kunal's father, Rajendra Singh, raised concerns about bruising on the body. Bhatia was arrested but later released by police due to a lack of evidence linking her to the death. The police investigation determined that no one else was in the apartment at the time of the incident. Kunal had previously attempted suicide by slashing his wrists, it was revealed. Kunal was working on a Hindi film called 'Yogi' through his newly formed production company, Balagiri, at the time of his death. The case was subsequently referred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and examined by Prof T D Dogra of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, who supported the suicide theory based on the crime scene examination.
