Kumar Sanu was an Indian Singer working in movies. Playback singer Kedarnath Bhattacharya is well known by his stage name Kumar Sanu. Kumar Sanu is popular for his songs. Kumar Sanu’s birthplace is Calcutta West Bengal. Kumar Sanu is from India.

In Bollywood he is referred to as the King of Melody. He is well known for singing numerous Bollywood and Hindi songs. In addition to Hindi he has performed in West Bengal and Bangladesh in Bengali his home tongue as well as Marathi Nepali Assamese Bhojpuri Gujarati Manipuri Telugu Malayalam Kannada Tamil Punjabi Odia Chhattisgarhi Urdu Pali and English. 

From 1990 to 1994 he set a record by winning the Best Male Playback Singer Filmfare Award five times in a row. In 2009 the Indian government honored him with the Padma Shri for his contributions to Indian music and film. His songs frequently appear in BBC's Top 40 Bollywood Soundtracks. In one day he managed to record 28 songs which earned him the Guinness World Record.

In 2012 Sanu made a comeback to playback singing. At the urging of the composer Sajid-Wajid he made a comeback. For the movie Rowdy Rathore Sajid-Wajid handed him the song Chhammak Chhallo Chhail Chhabili which features Shreya Ghoshal. Sanu took Lata Mangeshkar's place as the Yash Raj Films logo's background voice for the movie Dum Laga Ke Haisha in 2015. This was the first time Lata Mangeshkar's voice has been changed in YRF's 45-year history.

In 2004 he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in a ceremony officiated by the party's then-president Venkaiah Naidu. He eventually left the party to focus on his singing though. On December 2 2014 Amit Shah re-introduced Sanu to the BJP.

Meenakshi Seshadri the most paid and most alluring Bollywood actress of the 1990s caught Kumar's attention more. They first connected at the premiere of Mahesh Bhatt's movie Jurm. Sanu sang the well-known song Jab Koi Baat Bigad Jaaye which featured Meenakshi. Sanu was utterly overwhelmed by her beauty. They first began dating at that point. For around three years they maintained their relationship a secret until in 1993 Rita Sanu's wife noticed something was off about Sanu's interview with his secretary. She stated: Despite having numerous girlfriends Kumar is currently dating Meenakshi Seshadri a well-known actress.

When confronted Kumar initially denied having an affair with her but then admitted it. There then ensued a nasty legal scenario. After that in 1994 he and Rita got divorced with Rita keeping custody of their three kids while Kumar had access to his children's rights only by making a set monthly alimony payment.

In the middle of the 1980s Kumar Sanu married Rita Bhattacharya. The two claimed to have known one another back in Kolkata and Sanu brought her to Mumbai while he moved to Mumbai to pursue a career in the Bollywood industry before getting married. In 1988 they welcomed their first son Jessy and two more sons Jeeko and Jaan followed.

They had a small happy family and a lovely life. Sanu was at this point moving up the success ladder and gaining a lot of notoriety. When Sanu became involved with lesser-known actress Kunika Lal in 1993 for the briefest of flings difficulties first began to arise.

Kumar Sanu later split from Meenakshi and the relationship between Kumar and Meenakshi also weakened during this time as a result of the ugly divorce case. After breaking up with both Rita and Meenakshi Sanu eventually got married to Bikaner girl Saloni Bhattacharya whose family had roots in London. Shannon and Ana the couple's two daughters were a blessing.

Their permanent home is in London where they reside with their mother. Shannon the eldest daughter followed in her father's footsteps by releasing her English music CD in the UK in 2014.

Beginning in 1984 Sanu began his playback singing career as Sanu Bhattacharya. He appeared in the Bangladeshi movie Teen Kanya which was directed by Shibli Sadiq in 1986. Hero Hiralal featured his first significant Bollywood song.

In Mumbai's Vimal Bungalow in 1989 Jagjit Singh met Sanu and Kalyanji. They advised Sanu to adopt his idol Kishore Kumar's name so he did changing his own name of Sanu Bhattacharya to Kumar Sanu. Sanu thereafter moved to Mumbai where he was given the opportunity to sing in the movie Jaadugar by Kalyanji-Anandji.

All bar one of the songs for the 1990 film Aashiqui was sung by Sanu. As Best Male Playback Singer he took home the first of his record-breaking five Filmfare Awards in a row. His subsequent Filmfare Awards were given for the songs he composed for the motion pictures Saajan (1991) Deewana (1992) Baazigar (1993) and 1942: A Love Story (1994). Between 1990 and 1994 he won five Filmfare awards in a row for singing.

Kishore Ki Yaadein a selection from the beginning of his career is one of the albums of songs by Kishore Kumar that Sanu has released. Then followed the Yaadein series where he sang alongside singers Abhijeet Bhattacharya and Vinod Rathod on a number of Kishore Kumar tunes.

On Zee TV's Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and Sony TV's Waar Parriwar a reality show centered on the reunion of a singing gharana (family of singers) Sanu served on the panel of judges. He served as a judge on the musical reality series Sa Re Ga Ma Pa - Gane Gane Tomar Mone on Zee Bangla in 2012. He currently serves as one of the panelists on Super Singer a prominent musical reality show on Star Jalsha.
