Sudeepa was born and brought up in Shimoga district of present-day Karnataka. His birth name was Sudeep. Their family had moved to Shimoga from Chikmagalur district's Narasimharajapura. He was fond of sports from a young age and later developed his interest for acting
He graduated from Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering in Bangalore with a bachelor's degree in Industrial and Production Engineering. He represented the college in an under-17 cricket match during his youth days. Later he studied acting at Mumbai's Roshan Taneja School of Acting, where he overcame his shyness.
Sudeep’s mother’s name is Saroja while his father's name is Sanjeev Manjappa. The in depth information regarding Sudeep’s family is not available as of now as the actor has kept it private from the public eye.
Sudeepa met Priya Radhakrishna in 2000 in Bengaluru, and they got married in 2001. Prior to their marriage, Priya worked for an airline and subsequently a bank. Saanvi, their only child, was born in 2004. Sudeepa founded Stage 360°, an event management firm in which his wife was a partner, in 2013. The pair divorced in September 2015, but afterwards they reconciled their marriage.
Sudeep made his cinematic debut in Thayavva (1997). He later appeared as a supporting actor in Sunil Kumar Desai's Prathyartha and as a lead in the same director's Sparsha. A role in Huchcha in 2001 gave him his first large following. He made his Bollywood debut in Phoonk in 2008. In addition, he has appeared in Ram Gopal Varma's films Rann, Phoonk 2, and Rakta Charitra. Starting with Veera Parampare (2010), he changed his stage name from Sudeep to Sudeepa on the advice of S. Narayan, and after the success of the film, he chose to keep the name. Kempe Gowda and Vishnuvardhana (2011), his later films, were also commercial triumphs.
Sudeepa made his Telugu film debut in 2012 with S. S. Rajamouli's Eega, a fantasy film in which he played an industrialist who, after falling in love with an NGO worker (played by Samantha Ruth Prabhu), kills her putative lover, who then haunts him in the guise of a housefly. The film and Sudeepa's performance received critical appreciation. In 2013, Bachchan and Varadanayaka were released. His next film was a drama titled Maanikya, which he also directed, and was a remake of the Telugu film Mirchi (2013), which was a major success. Sudeepa has now worked in the film industry for 26 years. Anup Bhandari directed Sudeepa's next film, Vikrant Rona, which starred Nirup Bhandari and Neetha Ashok. He will also appear as Bhargav Bakshi in the upcoming Pan India film Kabzaa, starring Upendra.

The film received overwhelmingly excellent reviews from reviewers and moviegoers upon its initial theatrical release on July 23, 2000. However, the screening had to be halted because bandh was declared in most Karnataka towns and cities following the kidnapping of Kannada actor Rajkumar in July 2000, negatively impacting the film's box office. The film had a 100-day run in theatres after normalcy was restored. Sudeep played the character as Sudeep.
S. Rajamouli wrote and directed the 2012 Telugu fantasy action film Eega. With an estimated budget of 30-40 crore (US$6-7 million), Sai Korrapati's Vaaraahi Chalana Chitram produced the film. It was also shot in Tamil under the title Naan Ee (transl. I, the Fly). Sudeepa, Nani, and Samantha are among the cast members. M. M. Keeravani wrote the songs and the background score, and K. K. Senthil Kumar directed the film. The dialogue was written by Janardhana Maharshi and Crazy Mohan for the Telugu and Tamil versions, respectively. The film was also named as Makkhi .
The plot of the film takes the shape of a bedtime story recounted by a father to his daughter. Its protagonist, Nani, who is in love with his neighbour Bindu, is murdered by Sudeep, a wealthy industrialist who is drawn to Bindu and regards Nani as a rival. Nani reincarnates as a housefly in order to avenge his murder and shield Bindu from Sudeep's obsession.
