Kader Khan’s Struggles

Kader Khan’s Struggles

On October 22 1937 Kader Khan was born in Kabul Afghanistan. He belongs to the Kakar tribe of ethnic Pashtuns. Kader Khan's family relocated from Kabul to Mumbai's Kamathipura neighbourhood where he was raised. Kader was born into poverty into a devout Muslim household in Afghanistan. Three of his brothers passed away during puberty before Kader was born. Following the birth of Kader Kader's parents relocated from Kabul to Mumbai with him because they held the superstitious view that the residence where they were staying was cursed and had brought bad luck into their life.

The decision of his family to relocate to Mumbai had not been successful and to make matters worse they had previously resided in Mumbai's Kamathipura a district known for its sex tourism. Kader frequently skipped school because he lacked shoes choosing to spend the day imitating the locals in the graveyard instead.

His horrible upbringing left him with little to be thankful for and his parents' divorce also put a stop to any remaining optimism. Additionally staying with his mother turned out to be the wrong choice because his stepfather mistreated him. He was able to maintain his concentration on his studies under the most trying conditions as evidenced by the distinction with which he passed his high school and college exams.

He began attending a neighbourhood municipal school before enrolling in Ismail Yusuf College where he later earned an engineering degree with a civil engineering concentration. He served as a professor of civil engineering at M. H. Saboo Siddik College of Engineering in Byculla from 1970 and 1975.

When Narinder Bedi saw the theatre play Khan had written he requested him to collaborate with Inder Raj Anand on the script for Jawani Diwani for which Khan was paid 1500 rupees. He was seen by comedian Agha while appearing in the play Taash Ke Patey and Agha subsequently suggested that actor Dilip Kumar should attend the performance. Impressed Dilip Kumar hired him for his upcoming movies Sagina and Bairaag. Khan recalls this as the event that launched his cinematic career in an interview with Rediff. After being hired to write the script for Jawani Diwani which launched his career as a script writer he had previously written plays for theatres.

Kader Khan Controversy

Kader Khan Controversy

In 1987 his friendship with Amitabh Bachchan ended. He explained the cause of it in 2012 saying I used to always call him Amit. Have you met Sir ji? said a producer from the south once. Which sir ji I enquired? He pointed at Amit Ji and said That tall dude. Amit ji was on his way. He's Amit I said.

He was formerly known as Sir Ji. We address him as Sir Ji he said. Since that time he has been referred to as sir ji by everyone. How is it possible for anyone to refer to their brother or friend by any other name? It cannot be done. We have never again had the same equation because I was unable to do it.
